GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Assign ICD and CPT/Surgery codes and abstracting to outpatient medical record types including ED, Clinic, Urgent Care, and Ancillary from a full-time remote location in accordance with the department’s established accuracy and productivity requirements.

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Reviews the medical record and assigns the appropriate ICD and CPT codes.
  • Codes assigned outpatient record types daily.
  • Monitors the “uncoded DNB” work queue.
  • Codes records in a timely manner. November 2021
  • Maintains satisfactory coding performance in accordance with the department’s accuracy target and productivity requirements for each record type.
  • Abstracts data into the patient abstract fields.
  • Responds to coding requests from internal and external customers, i.e. business office, physician office.
  • Requests diagnosis from physician’s office as needed.
  • Participates in attending educational programs, hospital and departmental staff meeting.
  • Performs other duties as required by Manager and/or Director.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 -2 years’ experience coding in an acute care hospital setting preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

  • Certified as any of the following: CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H, RHIT or RHIA. Must maintain continuing education hours to maintain certification.
