Job description

Proposal Technical Writer

Location: Remote

Status: Exempt

About the role

The Proposal Technical Writer will be a key part of a small team tasked with responding to Government RFP/RFIs and creating compliant and compelling proposals. They will utilize their knowledge and writing skills to craft winning solutions from initial draft to final submission which includes writing accurate and well-crafted documents that will satisfy Government’s written requirements. Must have the ability to interview technical SME's, perform internal research in content libraries and external sources to translate technical information into organized coherent narratives that re understandable for the proposal reviewer. Will need to be able to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including the proposal team, capture managers, solution architects, SMEs, and business partners to gather information, make sense of it, and work it into a proposal outline.  

This position offers great work flexibility.  

Responsibilities:

  • Reading government proposal Performance Work Statements (PWS), Requests for Information (RFIs), and associated instructions.
  •  Work with team to strategize response approach.
  • Finds, analyzes, and synthesizes written content from proposal libraries, revises and repurposes it for new efforts, ensuring the content is tailored to meet the solicitation requirements.
  • Authors complete, compliant, grammatically correct content that is accurate and easy to read for a variety of work products including, but not limited to, executive summaries, corporate experience narratives, past performances, standard business practices (project management/staffing/quality/transition plans), technical approaches, process & procedures, marketing materials, and resumes of key personnel.
  • Meets assignment deadlines by understanding priorities, deliverables and seeking any clarifications as required. Escalates risks to meeting deadlines in a timely fashion.
  • Performs technical rewrite/edits on proposals, as necessary.
  • Maintains quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards and style guides.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work flexible hours to achieve the requirements of the position.
  • Able to recommend formats for effective communication of different types of information (tables, charts, images, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience creating customized written content for government proposals, understanding of proposal lifecycle, and content management
  • Familiar and fluent with the Shipley proposal process
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or in Information Technology
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to convey complex technical information clearly and persuasively to readers who have varying levels of technical subject matter expertise
  • Proven ability to apply principles of Standard English language usage, grammar, mechanics, etc. in written work
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in all Microsoft Office products

Preferred

  • Experience with Information Technology
  • IT specific certifications (Sec+, MCP, MCSE, CISSP, etc.)
  • Publisher experience a plus
