Job description

Compensation: $111,000 - $145,000 per year. You are eligible for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 7.5% of your annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.

Bioinformatics Scientist II – Remote, USA 

As a member of Ambry’s Advanced Analytics group, you’ll be responsible for NGS data analysis, developing and maintaining our bioinformatics pipeline. This work will entail close interaction with a cross functional team of engineers, wet lab scientists, and clinicians with the goal of launching new products and improvements.   

Essential Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive data analyses within several product/ technology areas 
  • Implement new functionality or improvements to our production pipelines as suggested by our analyses 
  • Work in conjunction with assay development scientists to plan experiments in novel assay, development, troubleshooting, and sustaining support of existing products 
  • Present results and progress to non-bioinformatic stakeholders 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • PhD/Master’s in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field with 2+ years of post graduate experience (preferably industry and in a CLIA setting)   
  • Proficient in Python for data analysis and processing   
  • Proficient in a distributed Linux environment  
  • High level understanding of the molecular biology behind NGS  
  • Expert knowledge of common bioinformatics databases, resources, and tools
  • Experience analyzing sequencing data related to cancer, (e.g., germline or somatic single nucleotide variants (SNVs), indels, structural variations (SVs), fusions, copy number variants, RNA expression data, splicing variants)
  • Experience with modern data analysis techniques (e.g., Jupyter notebooks, interactive charting) and using them in a reproducible fashion  
  • Proficiency with software engineering best practices (e.g., version control, unit testing, documentation)  
  • Familiarity with modern workflow engines (e.g., NextFlow)Strong communication skills
  • Experience with AWS for data analysis (EC2 and S3)   

Preferred

  • Experience performing clinical validations
  • Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Singularity)  
  • Familiarity with modern workflow engines (e.g., NextFlow)
  • Experience with AWS for bioinformatics pipeline execution (NextFlow Tower, AWS Batch)  
  • Proven experience in cross-functional and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting objectives

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
