Job description

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

Coinbase is looking for an experienced Senior Manager of Executive Protection. This professional will focus their efforts on safeguarding our executives and high value targets from the unique threats they face. We will look to you to identify and quantify risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and execute against approved plans. We expect you to have a passion for protecting others, the ability to solve ambiguous challenges, and experience leading complex operations at a global scale.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Establish and maintain trust based relationships with executives and their staff.
  • Prepare and deliver executive communications, briefings, training sessions and reports.
  • Oversee the management of the Executive Protection budget.
  • Develop a global network of vendors capable of supporting EP operations.
  • Partner with the Protective Intelligence team and external risk consultancies to create comprehensive threat profiles unique to each individual. Develop and execute risk appropriate mitigation plans that are tailored to each individual’s needs.
  • Deliver core security solutions, alternatives and recommendations in support of company Executives.
  • Monitor protectee travel schedules. If warranted, work with the individual to modify their plans or deploy security measures to ensure safe outcomes are achieved.
  • Be willing and able to travel with little notice as needed.
  • Partner with cross functional teams to facilitate risk, threat, vulnerability assessments, site surveys and security advances for executive leadership travel, residences, events and other applicable areas.
  • Plan and coordinate personal security needs for internal and external events where a protectee is present.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance checks on full-time EP teams, Residential Security Teams, event security staff, and Emergency Response Teams.
  • Proactively engage with law enforcement when warranted.
  • Develop and iterate on policies and procedures that govern the EP program. Provide documentation to regulators and auditors as requested.
  • Review, recommend, and procure equipment and technology deemed necessary to enhance the personal security of individuals.
  • Maintain professional relationships with professionals across the security industry.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 6+ years multi-national security experience, including at least 3 years in a corporate security environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence internal and external security partners, such as venues, corporate hosts, executive assistants, and executives themselves.
  • Experience providing actual protective services for a protectee, including families with children.
  • Ability to benchmark through a personal network with professionals in the industry.
  • Familiar with best principles for quantifying, documenting and communicating risk.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel.
  • Proven ability to apply sound judgment and use discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Experience interfacing with public figures.
  • Experience with protective intelligence and threat assessment.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in Corporate Security.
  • Background in law enforcement or military service.
