Job description

Contract Length: 6-month position

Start date: June 2, 2025

Salary: from $27,400 depending on experience

Schedule: 37.5 h/week 

Work Arrangement: Telecommuting 

Location: Montreal or Quebec City

Why do we need you?

Under the supervision of the Director, Strategic Conservation and Innovation, and as a member of the Quebec Region GIS team, the Geomatics Technician will maintain GIS data and applications. He or she will contribute to the development of cartographic and data products to help achieve the organization's conservation objectives. The Geomatics Technician will also provide support to the science, fundraising and communications teams.

MAIN TASKS 

1. Geomatics support for the conservation department - acquisition and stewardship (80%)

  • Produce cartographic products for NCC projects - Quebec Region;
  • Generate various maps and statistics of land use, protected areas and species at risk for areas of interest in existing and potential conservation projects; 
  • Prepare field material for field inventories using Esri ArcGIS Online, Field Maps and Survey-123 applications and data services.

2. Maintenance and optimization of geomatic tools (20%)

  • Update and improve existing spatial data for the organization's projects;
  • Create new data and update the existing dataset and analyses on the server to constantly improve our spatial information. Optimize data sets for use by GIS team and regional colleagues;
  • Develop data services and interactive maps for NCC office and field staff;
  • Provide training to staff on our GIS tools.

SKILLS required

  • Advanced knowledge of commonly used geographic information systems (GIS) hardware and software, including ArcGIS 10.x or ArcGIS PRO suite (essential), ArcGIS Online, QGIS, open source datasets and the development of data services and mapping tools;
  • Programming skills with ESRI Python scripts, Model Builder, ArcGIS;
  • Excellent mapping and relational database skills.
  • Proven experience in preparing field data collection devices and developing field forms and mapping applications;
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues at regional and national levels;
  • Proactive: able to anticipate and plan for future needs;
  • Flexibility of approach: adaptability to different people and priorities, ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Rigor: excellent attention to detail and time management.
