Job description

InnovateEDU seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented Policy Associate reporting directly to our CEO to join our dynamic team. The Policy Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the development, implementation, and analysis of policies related to the InnovateEDU portfolio of projects. Responsibilities:

  • Policy Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct in-depth research on relevant policy issues, including legislative proposals, regulatory frameworks, and best practices.
    • Analyze data and synthesize information from diverse sources to inform policy recommendations.
    • Prepare policy briefs, memos, and reports summarizing research findings and policy implications.
    • Monitor and track legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Policy Development and Advocacy:
    • Assist in the development of policy proposals and recommendations.
    • Support advocacy efforts by preparing materials, conducting outreach, and representing the organization at meetings and events.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government officials, community organizations, and advocacy groups.
    • Draft public comments and testimony on proposed policies.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Communicate complex policy information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
    • Collaborate with team members and external partners to achieve policy goals.
    • Maintain accurate records and databases of policy-related information.
    • Assist with the organization and coordination of policy-related events and meetings.
  • Other Duties:
    • Provide administrative support as needed.
    • Assist with grant writing and reporting.
    • Stay up-to-date on current policy trends and developments.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, economics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of two years of experience in policy research, analysis, or advocacy.
    • Experience working with [mention relevant sectors, e.g., government agencies, non-profit organizations, research institutions].
    • Demonstrated understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Skills:
    • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Proactive approach with a strong sense of initiative and creativity.  
  • Knowledge:
    • Working knowledge of education and technology policy 
    • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and policy frameworks.

This position is a work-from-home position located in the Washington, DC area.


Compensation

All candidates are pay scaled by an independent third-party service or application, which calculates the market rate for the applicant based on skills and qualifications, job duties, market conditions within the applicant's location, education, and experience. This position’s compensation range is $62,000 - $72,000 annually. InnovateEDU full-time employees receive paid vacation and sick leave, medical/dental/vision insurance, retirement, and other benefits.


This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work remotely. Since March 2020, most InnovateEDU staff has worked virtually, and team members are expected to be available during typical office hours in Eastern Standard Time, with some flexibility available.
