Overview:
The ITAM Practice Director is a senior leadership role with end-to-end responsibility for developing, delivering, and growing the IT Asset Management (ITAM) function. This includes driving operational excellence, managing stakeholder relationships, and creating scalable, client-focused solutions. A key aspect of this role is pre-sales and solutions development, leveraging ITAM expertise to address client needs, close deals, and expand service offerings. The Practice Director works closely with IT management, service providers, and business stakeholders to optimize asset management strategies, enhance ITSM integration, and ensure compliance with international logistics, procurement, and regulatory standards.
1. Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a comprehensive ITAM strategy aligned with organizational goals, focusing on cost optimization, operational efficiency, and risk management.
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) to clients, internal teams, and stakeholders, providing strategic guidance on ITAM best practices and ITSM integration.
Define, implement, and enforce ITAM policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring alignment with ITIL and regulatory requirements.
2. Pre-Sales and Solutions Development
Lead pre-sales activities, including identifying client needs, crafting tailored ITAM solutions, and delivering proposals and presentations.
Collaborate with sales and account management teams to build compelling value propositions for clients, driving the adoption of ITAM services.
Design scalable, client-specific solutions for IT asset lifecycle management, software license optimization, and compliance.
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, assisting in business development efforts by showcasing ITAM’s impact on operational excellence and cost savings.
3. Operational Excellence
Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle management of IT assets, including hardware, software, and cloud resources, ensuring effective utilization and compliance.
Collaborate with procurement, supply chain, and logistics teams to streamline asset acquisition, international shipping, deployment, and lifecycle management.
Implement and manage ITAM tools and systems to ensure accurate asset tracking, reporting, and automation.
Lead initiatives to enhance ITAM and ITSM processes through innovative technologies and best practices.
4. Governance and Compliance
Ensure compliance with licensing agreements, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.
Establish a governance framework to monitor and mitigate risks related to ITAM, such as underutilized assets, non-compliance, or overspending.
Maintain audit readiness by enforcing policies and documenting all aspects of ITAM operations.
5. Sales and Business Development
Partner with sales teams to identify new business opportunities, build client relationships, and expand ITAM services into new markets.
Drive growth through strategic planning, identifying trends, and developing innovative service offerings to meet market demands.
Actively participate in RFP (Request for Proposal) processes, crafting competitive and comprehensive solutions to win new business.
6. Performance Management and Reporting
Define and track SLAs, SLOs, KPIs, and other metrics to evaluate ITAM program performance.
Maintain Executive Dashboards to provide clients and stakeholders with visibility into performance, inventory metrics, and cost optimization efforts.
Analyze data and provide actionable insights to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction.
7. Team Leadership and Development
Lead and mentor the ITAM team, including asset managers, ITSM analysts, and operations personnel, fostering a culture of excellence and growth.
Set clear goals, expectations, and accountability for team members.
Identify training opportunities and professional development needs to enhance team expertise and capability.
8. Industry Engagement and Continuous Improvement
Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in ITAM and ITSM.
Represent the organization in industry forums, conferences, and client engagements to promote thought leadership and expand networks.
Continuously refine and improve ITAM practices to maintain a competitive edge and ensure service excellence.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Certifications in ITAM (e.g., CSAM, CHAMP) and ITIL (e.g., ITIL v3/v4 Foundation) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT Asset Management, with a proven track record in strategy development, operational leadership, and client engagement.
Extensive experience in pre-sales, solutions development, and selling ITAM services to external clients.
Strong expertise in integrating ITAM with ITIL-based ITSM processes, including procurement and demand planning.
Background in international logistics, supply chain management, and regulatory compliance.
Technical Skills
Deep understanding of ITAM and ITSM systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Flexera, ManagedEngine, Jira ITAM, Oomnitza, or similar platforms)
Advanced knowledge of asset lifecycle management, license optimization, and automation tools.
Proficient in building dashboards and generating insights using Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
