Role Overview
As a Backend Engineer at Peerspace, you will be a vital member of our delivery team focused on building and maintaining scalable backend services that power the Peerspace platform. You will primarily work in Clojure to develop new services and support existing systems, with occasional maintenance of legacy applications and services in Node. Working closely with other engineers, product management, and cross-functional stakeholders, you'll help ensure our cloud-based, service-oriented architecture is robust, reliable, and aligned with modern development practices, including infrastructure-as-code.
Qualifications:
You are a great fit for this role if you have:
● Experience: 3-5 years in software development, with hands-on experience in backend engineering.
● Technical Skills:
○ Proficiency in Clojure for developing and maintaining backend services.
○
Familiarity with
Node.js, especially for supporting legacy services.
○ Understanding of service-oriented architectures and RESTful API design.
○ Experience working in cloud environments and using modern development tooling.
○ Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools and practices.
● Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to debug and optimize backend systems.
● Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with senior engineers and cross-functional teams, contributing to collective problem-solving and continuous improvement.
● Growth Mindset: Enthusiasm for learning new tools and techniques in cloud deployment, automation, and backend development.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
● Service Development: Designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services primarily using Clojure, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and performant.

Legacy Support: Assisting in the maintenance and gradual modernization of legacy
Node.js services as part of our broader system.
● Cloud Deployment: Collaborating on cloud deployments, leveraging modern tooling and infrastructure-as-code practices to enhance our deployment pipelines and overall system reliability.
● Code Quality: Writing clean, well-documented code and participating in code reviews to uphold our quality standards.
● Collaboration: Working closely with senior engineers, DevOps, and other team members to integrate backend services into our overall architecture and resolve operational issues.
● Continuous Improvement: Engaging in learning opportunities, adopting best practices, and staying up-to-date with industry trends to enhance the backend technology stack.

The annual salary range for this role is $130,000 to $150,000. The actual salary will vary depending on experience, skills, and abilities as well as internal equity and market data.
