Job Summary

The Data Governance Lead will be at the forefront of establishing and implementing comprehensive data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, compliance, and usability throughout the client's data modernization initiative. This role focuses on deploying DataHub and Great Expectations to achieve robust metadata management and data validation, driving business change management, and eliminating dirty data from the organization's systems.

As a critical member of the project team, the Data Governance Lead will collaborate with stakeholders, data engineers, and compliance teams to implement scalable, sustainable governance processes while maintaining alignment with business objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Data Governance Framework Implementation:
  • Deploy and configure DataHub for enterprise-level data cataloging and metadata management.
  • Implement Great Expectations to automate data quality checks and validation processes.
  • Develop role-based access controls to enhance security and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Process and Policy Development:
  • Define and document data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Establish processes for ongoing data stewardship and compliance auditing.
  • Business Change Management:
  • Lead stakeholder engagement initiatives to promote the adoption of new data governance processes.
  • Develop and deliver training materials for business teams, focusing on data governance tools and practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align governance efforts with broader organizational goals.
  • Data Quality Management:
  • Profile, clean, and standardize datasets to eliminate redundant, inconsistent, or outdated data.
  • Design preventative measures to reduce future occurrences of dirty data.
  • Work closely with data engineering teams to integrate data quality controls into ETL pipelines.
  • Collaboration and Leadership:
  • Act as the primary liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders for all governance-related activities.
  • Provide strategic guidance on governance priorities, balancing short-term needs with long-term sustainability.
  • Report on governance metrics and progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 10+ years in data governance, data quality management, or related roles.
  • Hands-on experience with DataHub, Great Expectations, and similar tools.
  • Proven ability to design and implement enterprise-scale data governance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in metadata management, data profiling, and validation tools.
  • Knowledge of modern data platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS Glue).
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to lead change management efforts and foster organizational buy-in.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data cataloging and lineage tracking tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation).
  • Knowledge of agile project management methodologies.
  • Expertise in data security practices and role-based access control systems.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as GDPR and CCPA.
