Job description

10x Engineer
SFR3 is a boutique real estate investment fund managing $2B+ of affordable single-family homes. The Fund renovates distressed homes, using software-driven operations to run many “tertiary” markets concurrently. Today we own 10,500+ homes in 20 states.
You

You love building software that directly enables your team to crack critical business challenges. You’ve shipped production applications and can strike the right balance between shipping fast for immediate impact and long-term vision. You enjoy working remotely along with the independence and responsibility that comes with that.

Real estate is the world’s largest asset class, but experience in the domain is not required. What is necessary is motivation to dive in and understand the work people do every day so you can build the right tools that give them leverage. The idea of building & running a $150M/yr business that operates like a startup, growing at 5-7%/yr (not a startup looking for PMF) is exciting to you.

What You’ll Do

Managing and optimizing resources across thousands of field work orders weekly isn’t just a challenge—it’s a call for an optimization virtuoso. Imagine a cold winter morning where hundreds of maintenance techs across 20 states rely on your insight to navigate urgent, real-time challenges.

In this role, you’ll join a dynamic team of business leaders, taking full command of the resource management lifecycle. Your mission is simple yet powerful: innovate relentlessly, re-plan with precision, and transform basic inputs into a lean, efficient engine that ensures every home and process performs flawlessly. If you’re ready to redefine field operations and drive excellence that builds lasting trust, step into your arena and make your mark.

In this role, you will:

  • Harness Data & AI for Maximum Efficiency: Leverage cutting-edge analytics, OR/LLM/AI tools, and automation frameworks to predict field needs, streamline workflows, and drive real-time resource optimization. Your innovative mindset will keep us ahead of the curve and ensure we’re always doing the highest value thing at the right time to service residents who live in our homes.
  • Integrate Across Teams & Systems: You know the questions others are going to ask before they ask them and business unit leads know the why behind the decisions being made each day. Your ability to integrate diverse inputs into a unified strategy will be key to operational success.
  • Shape Our Operational Roadmap: You will have input to the Fund's strategy. Why? Because we are cost-centric, and this role controls the single largest lever on our entire OpEx; any new idea that moves the dial by 100 bps makes you a hero.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: You live for operational data—pushing productive field hours to the max. You’ll root out inefficiencies and seize growth opportunities with relentless focus. Make it easy for the system to prioritize urgent work—like “HVAC down at 123 Main St, temp’s dropping below zero tonight”—then prioritize and replan globally. Optimization here sets the field excellence bar.
Your Stats

You'll be working across multiple backend projects. You might be a great fit if these attributes describe you:

  • Extensive experience in field resource management, process optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • A data-driven decision maker with a passion for turning raw numbers into actionable insights.
  • Expertise in operations research methodologies with a proven track record of delivering measurable results.
  • Full stack: You are as comfortable playing the role of scientist as you are getting into the nitty gritty of the backend system implementation (experience with Python, Java, optimization tools) .
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a relentless pursuit of continuous improvement—if you’re not excited about making systems more efficient every day, this isn’t the job for you.

Working timezone overlaps at least 5 working hours with US Pacific and you love cranking late into the evening in an “always on” environment.
