Job description

Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occured since the game's launch 4 years ago. 

 

Mob Entertainment is seeking a UI/UX Designer with strong Unreal Engine expertise to join our team on a contract basis for our next release. This role is ideal for a highly skilled mid-to-senior-level designer with experience in UMG, Rive, and Figma, capable of designing intuitive, polished, and interactive UI elements while ensuring smooth and efficient implementation within Unreal Engine.

The ideal candidate should be proficient in Unreal Engine’s UI system (UMG), Rive for animation, and Figma for wireframing, with enough scripting knowledge to implement UI elements directly in-engine. Experience with Unreal’s Enhanced Input system and gamepad/keyboard/mouse accessibility considerations is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement game UI and UX flows using UMG in Unreal Engine, Rive for animations, and Figma for prototyping.

  • Develop interactive, animated, and responsive UI elements that enhance gameplay, menus, HUD, and player experience.

  • Implement and refine UI functionality using Unreal Engine's Enhanced Input system to support gamepad, mouse, and keyboard controls.

  • Work closely with Game Designers, Engineers, and Artists to ensure UI aligns with gameplay, player needs, and visual consistency.

  • Optimize UI performance, ensuring that elements are lightweight, efficient, and visually clear.

  • Develop interactive prototypes in Figma, iterating based on playtesting and feedback.

  • Implement basic scripting and logic for UI interactions using Unreal Blueprints and light coding where necessary.

  • Ensure UI meets accessibility standards, including readability, input remapping, and screen scaling options.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize UI issues, ensuring smooth performance on all target platforms.

Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine (UMG) and Rive UI animation tools.

  • Experience with Figma for wireframing, prototyping, and design iteration.

  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine’s Enhanced Input system, ensuring seamless control mapping.

  • Ability to script and implement UI elements in Unreal, using Blueprints and/or basic scripting.

  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles, including player navigation, readability, feedback systems, and intuitive design.

  • Experience designing HUDs, menus, settings screens, inventory systems, and accessibility options.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing UI/UX work in games, with examples of interactive, animated UI elements.

  • Experience optimizing UI performance, ensuring minimal draw calls and efficient asset usage.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, take feedback, and iterate quickly.

Pluses:
  • Experience working with UI in multiplayer/networked games.

  • Familiarity with procedural UI generation or data-driven UI systems.

  • Experience designing retro-inspired UI elements that blend modern usability with nostalgic aesthetics.

  • Knowledge of motion design principles for interactive UI animations.

Performance Expectations:
  • Deliver clean, well-organized, and performant UI designs that enhance the game’s experience and accessibility.

  • Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and art teams to ensure seamless UI integration.

  • Iterate based on playtesting feedback, refining UI for usability and clarity.

  • Maintain a high standard of visual polish while ensuring technical efficiency.
