Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Real Estate Counsel to help support Urban Grid’s solar and energy storage projects. This role will be involved in all aspects of project acquisition, development, and financing.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate and land use for renewable energy projects. 

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate options, leases, easements, purchase agreements, deeds, and other site control agreements.
• Support the land acquisition, M&A, development, finance, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle in identifying, understanding, and mitigating legal risks pertaining to real estate and land use.
• Provide real estate support on major transactions such as construction and tax equity financing, acquisitions, and divestitures
• Draft and negotiate deeds of trust, estoppels, SNDAs, and other title documents for the derisking and financing of renewable energy projects.
• Provide guidance on permitting processes and land use approvals.
• Work closely with the rest of the real estate team, including title and survey managers, to derisk and cure title issues.
• Collaborate with local real estate counsel, landowners’ counsel, financing parties, local governments, and other stakeholders to build positive relationships.
• Assist in developing and implementing new processes and standards to ensure effective development and compliance with real estate contracts.

Location: Houston, TX is preferred with a hybrid office policy. Remote work is acceptable outside the Houston Metro for the right candidate. Position may require periodic travel for team meetings, events or determined on an as needed basis.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
• 2+ years of experience in real estate law with a focus on renewable energy projects, including acquisitions and financings.
• Proven expertise in negotiating and managing complex real estate transactions.
• Strong understanding of title, survey, and zoning issues.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and drafting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Renewable energy experience valued, but not required.
• Excellent business judgment.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
• Highly self-motivated and proactive; eager to take ownership over work product and able to advance work independently.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity to build strong working relationships.
• Ability to influence others and to gain support for his/her ideas.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and drafting skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness.
