The base salary range for a Financial Planning Analyst is $54,000 to $97,000. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.
Financial Planning Analyst Overview
The Financial Planning Analyst supports the ongoing budget and management reporting function for the organization. This supports the annual budget development process and ongoing budget monitoring and reporting, maintains, and updates the Activity Based Costing Model, and supports the product performance reporting function for the key lines of business.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in the annual budget development process. This may include budget preplanning, training budget users, collaborating with the functional areas as they complete their budgets, and assisting with the final budget submission and approval process
- Assists with ongoing budget monitoring and reporting including posting monthly administrative expense journal entries, researching budget variances, reviewing and validating Blue Partner administrative expense charges, and reporting monthly budget to actual via the SAS Visual Analytics Hub
- Maintains and updates the Activity Based Costing Model including collecting and loading all monthly Resource and Activity Drivers, including metric data, and reviewing for reasonableness, and ensuring the model continues to align with the corporate organizational structure
- Completing an annual review of the model for alignment with the upcoming organization plan year and generating planned results by month for monthly budget to actual reporting
- Supports the product performance reporting function which includes supporting the preparation of the monthly product P&L reporting package and updating reports on the SAS Visual Analytics Hub
- Additional tasks may include reviewing and approving accounts payable in the AP Workflow system, supporting year-end close process, and other projects and initiatives
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong working knowledge of Activity Based Costing (ABC) concepts
- Strong working knowledge of budgeting concepts
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong MS Word and Excel (formulas, pivot tables, filters) skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills
- Ability to work well with teammates within the finance department and with departmental managers across the organization
- Ability to maintain confidential information
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or equivalent related experience
- 2 years of audit, cost accounting and/or budget related experience, ideally in the financial services/insurance industry or equivalent military experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or in the process of taking the CPA Exam
- Knowledge of SAS Financial Management and SAS Cost and Profitability Management Software
- Familiar with SAS Visual Analytics or similar application
- Experience with budget development and reporting
