Director of Communication and Engagement | Greenleaf Advisors and Greenleaf Communities | Greater Chicago region, IL (remote)

Greenleaf Communities is a nonprofit that engages multi-disciplinary teams of researchers and practitioners to advance practice and policy solutions that contribute to a healthy and sustainable world.

This role will work across both Greenleaf Advisors and Greenleaf Communities to advance a healthy and sustainable world by bridging expertise and resources across disciplines and sectors with market and policy solutions for protection of earth resources.

Position Summary

The Director of Communication and Engagement will lead communications, marketing, and outreach, develop communication strategies, and prepare and disseminate materials to inform policies and sustainable practices to develop a strong audience of influential decision makers.

This position will engage corporations, investors, governments, institutions, and NGOs to adopt and benefit from sustainable practices provided by Greenleaf clients and service partners, including clean energy, climate risk and emissions management, and nature-based solutions to climate change.

The Director of Communication and Engagement will report to John Andersen (President).

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead Communications, Marketing and Outreach strategy and implementation:
    • Conduct marketing, outreach, and communications to prospects, clients, and partners.
    • Bridge research to policy by communicating with primary partners, policymakers, and stakeholders. Engage private, public, and civic sectors.
    • Promote Greenleaf expertise and thought leadership via multiple channels (e.g., workshops, conferences, programs, social media).
    • Build awareness of Greenleaf capabilities to generate business.
    • Strategic thinking and collaboration to formulate programs and projects for execution.
  • Support Business Development and Client/Partner Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects for Greenleaf offerings.
    • Capture and develop new client relationships to drive revenue generation.
    • Build and maintain relationships; collaborate with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Execute on client services; engage markets on behalf of clients/partners.
    • Conduct market outreach to capture interest in Greenleaf priorities and offerings.
    • Formulate and execute communication for fundraising and outreach/grants.
Candidate Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree; Preference for graduate degree or comparable experience.

5 – 10 years’ plus experience serving clients and originating and developing relationships with a background in sustainability, conservation, or environmental solutions preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to grasp complex subject matter with broad understanding and ability to translate.

Strong outreach and client/partner engagement skills.

Ability to think critically and work with factual analyses and data.

Highly accomplished track record of success both individually and with teams.

Demonstrated service focus to meet others’ needs.

Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization.

Ability to work with people across disciplines/viewpoints and lead disparate teams.

Company is headquartered in the Chicago region; work is presently remote with periodic team and partner meetings in person.

Compensation – $90,000 -150,000 based on experience. Compensation split across organizations.
