We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Commentary Editor to solicit and edit compelling opinion essays for publication at USA TODAY.

This editor will identify writers with expertise to address issues in the news, edit their submissions and work with other opinion editors to publish op-eds that provide our audiences with insight and information that adds value.

A successful editor in this role will be comfortable moving at the speed of news and have a passion for providing insights on the news that go below the surface.

This editor should be comfortable reviewing unsolicited submissions, identifying those most likely to generate reader engagement and working with writers to hone their op-eds.

This is a remote role, which can be in all states except for Alaska and Hawaii.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, with a focus on opinion writing and editing.
  • Strong writing, editing and fact-checking skills.
  • Deep knowledge of current events, politics and social issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $60,000 and $79,000.  Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
