The Global Manufacturing and Quality Learning and Development (GMQLD) team is dedicated to delivering learning solutions that empower Lilly’s Manufacturing and Quality organizations to achieve our mission: making medicine with safety first and quality always. The Senior Director – MQ L&D Network Leader will ensure alignment, standardization, strategy execution, and continuous improvement across multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring global standards and consistency while addressing local learning needs. This role is vital for optimizing learning programs, shaping site-specific strategies, and maintaining high standards of effectiveness and compliance across manufacturing locations.

Learning Strategies:
  • In partnership with the Senior Director of the CoE and the network L&D leads, create and implement a global learning strategy that aligns with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and site-specific needs.
  • Ensure all site L&D teams integrate best practices and innovation.
  • Drive capability-building initiatives across the network to enhance workforce readiness and elevate performance.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to assess local training needs and develop learning plans that address specific site requirements.

Process and Curricula Standardization:
  • Partner with leaders to define and enforce standardized learning processes, curricula and qualification programs across all sites.
  • Ensure consistent deployment of GMP compliance training, job role-based curricula, and leadership development programs.
  • Establish benchmarking and best practices based on the network’s community of practice to continuously optimize training effectiveness across sites.
  • Implement in partnership with CoE, structured onboarding and training programs for new sites, expansions and technology transfers.
  • Ensure that learning content and delivery methods are standardized across manufacturing locations to promote consistency and quality in learning outcomes.
  • Regularly review and provide feedback on learning resources to ensure they reflect best practices and compliance with global standards and ways of working.
  • Assess site learning effectiveness and adherence to global learning solutions.

Culture of Continuous Improvement:
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director of the CoE and the network L&D leads, implement a learning governance model across all network sites that fosters continuous improvement and accountability at all sites.
  • Leverage network-level data, analytics, and feedback loops to measure L&D effectiveness and driver iterative improvements.
  • Introduce innovative learning methods (guided execution, immersive learning, digital training, AR/VR/AI-driven assessments) to enhance engagement and knowledge retention across sites.
  • Partner with Quality, Operations and HR to align training with real-time performance gaps and regulatory expectations.
  • Encourage and enable knowledge-sharing across sites and networks to enhance organizational learning agility.

Site Collaboration:
  • Act as the central liaison between CoE and sites ensuring execution, seamless communication, and alignment.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development for L&D site leaders.
  • Facilitate regular forums, communities of practice, and best-practice sharing to drive collaboration among site L&D teams.
  • Partner with site leaders and collaborators to identify skill gaps and local needs within their teams, developing solutions that align with global practices.
  • Provide key updates on initiatives, effectiveness, etc. to site leadership.

Budgeting & Resource Allocation:
  • Ensure appropriate distribution of resources based on validated model across sites.

Compliance Audits & Risk Management:
  • Provide oversight and guidance to mitigate compliance risks through training effectiveness monitoring.

L&D Workforce Planning:
  • Address skill gaps, leadership succession planning, and career growth pathways for site teams.

External Benchmarking & Industry Leadership:
  • Engage with industry groups to stay ahead of learning trends in Pharma and GMP environments.

Basic Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree minimum.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a GMP environment, learning and development, or a related field with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing teams and strategic initiatives. Demonstrated leadership experience required, with a proven ability to guide teams, drive critical initiatives, and influence organizational outcomes.

Additional Skills/Preferences:
  • Master’s degree preferred, in Instructional Systems Technology, Performance Technology, Adult Learning, Human Resources, or related experience/education
  • Ability to lead and influence others at all levels, with and without authority, particularly on broad and complex issues
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, cross-culturally, and with individuals at all levels across a matrixed organization
  • Ability to think strategically, successfully navigate ambiguity and complexity, solve problems, and implement

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
