The role

As a key member of the Protein-Based Therapies team, the Business Development Manager (UK & IE) will play a crucial role in maintaining and expanding Lonza’s CHO-based media portfolio. This high-value, strategic position is responsible for driving sales by managing existing accounts and developing new business opportunities for Lonza IP, customer IP, and Buffer media within the designated territory (UK & IE).

You will also be responsible for facilitating technical support, gathering market insight, and collaborating with Lonza’s Biologics CDMO, Licensing, Product Management, Subject Matter Expert, and Program Management teams. As a senior individual contributor, the Business Development Manager will take full ownership of the sales cycle and utilise internal resources to achieve success!

Key responsibilities:

  • Builds and manages the sales funnel, from lead generation to closing deals.

  • Demonstrates deep understanding of Lonza’s Bioscience portfolio and effectively communicates the value proposition to customers.

  • Recognised as an expert in product knowledge and applications.

  • Understands market dynamics, competitive landscape, and assigned accounts.

  • Develops new business by prospecting and leveraging multi-channel strategies (cold calling, networking, social media, events).

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key decision-makers, ensuring long-term, sustainable business.

  • Communicates market trends, competitive activities, and customer feedback to senior management, product teams, and R&D.

  • Organises, plans, and schedules time for effective account and territory coverage.

  • Accurately forecasts and achieves quarterly and annual sales targets.

  • Ability to travel up to 50%, record activities and client information in CRM, and contribute to process improvements within the company.

Key requirements:

  • A BSc in Biology or a related Life Science field is preferred.

  • Previous BDM or Account Manager experience where you have a track record of growing the business.

  • Extensive experience in Sales/Business Development, laboratory, technical, or manufacturing roles, particularly with cell culture media.

  • Strong skills in building customer relationships, identifying needs, delivering tailored solutions, securing commitments and presenting effectively.
