About the position

As a Manager, Technical Product Owner on the Digital Strategy and Implementation Team, you will support the execution of the technology roadmap that sets the future direction of the SPG businesses. 

This role will be charged with leading overall internal and 3rd party development partners with a strong partnership with the current Technical Product Owners, Product Design, Application Development teams, internal Business Management, and PMO functions. You will bring a track record of success in building and delivering products that customers love.  This role will be empowered to drive commercial and personal insurance product growth by assisting in building a 21st-century digital brokerage with a passionate focus on providing protective solutions for both consumers and business.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the Specialty Program Group businesses, product teams, internal and third-party development teams, and HUB IT teams to translate business roadmaps and capabilities into tangible technical implementations

  • Serve as the product evangelist and subject matter expert to the technical/developer community

  • Drive communication and vision between the business, development, platform, data, and operations teams

  • Uncover and understand customer needs and translate them into requirements for future sprints

  • Iterate on the existing effectiveness of the organization, making the hard decisions to enable our team to capitalize on opportunities to impact our customer experience positively

  • Understand upcoming technology trends and how they impact the Special Program Group roadmap

  • Follow competitors and conduct capability analysis regularly

  • Assess and address technical risks related to the digital platform

  • Facilitate the creation and maintenance of proper technical product requirements and documentation

Required Experience

At least 10 years of technical and/or product development with minimum 3-5 years in a software Product Owner role (or a product manager or technical manager with hands-on experience managing backlogs and collaborating with developers).  

  • Experience building and managing high engagement digital products and features on a flexible, services-based platform is a big plus (i.e. mobile, API’s, cloud, etc.)

  • Proven ability to operate and lead technical product vision in the development process

  • Commercial and / or Personal Insurance experience is highly desired

  • Managed product backlog and story refinement meetings

  • Prioritized new features to maximize business value and set specific release timelines

  • Proficient with development and project management tools, including Jira and Confluence

  • Background building relationships with external customers and users to determine requirements and priorities and validate output of development team sprints

  • Strong user and stakeholder focus, excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communicator, comfortable having product and technical discussions with both internal and external developers and UX teams

  • Experience with both waterfall and Agile teams, quality engineers and project managers

Required Travel: Up to 15% as needed

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree, technical / software curriculum desired

Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $125,000 to $150,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
