Following massive growth in both Australia and Japan in recent years: get ready USA! Koala is looking for a finance leader to partner with our Country Manager and all departments to support and deliver sales and EBITDA targets. This individual will support achievement of sales targets, improve forecast accuracy and drive financial effectiveness of marketing spend with a focus on delivering commercial insights, developing promotional and pricing strategies and assessing other commercial initiatives. 

This role requires deep experience in financial leadership within a high-growth e-commerce company focused on physical products—subscription, digital, or service-based e-commerce experience alone will not be sufficient.

Requirements

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • Partner closely with the key commercial stakeholders in the business including the Country Manager - US, Head of Growth, Fulfillment Manager, Customer Support Manager and other department heads with influence over the financial results
  • Work with stakeholders to prepare budgets/forecasts and support financial analysis of initiatives and projects
  • Support the Group Finance team (based in Sydney) with USA P&L inputs for a high-growth, physical product, e-commerce business into the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes
  • Interpret data, analyze business trends, performance and provide insightful analysis to support the leaders of the business to deliver the annual budget
  • Present financial results and analysis to USA and Global leadership teams and senior leaders
  • Drive insight and ROI analysis of marketing spend to ensure most efficient use of investment
  • Utilize P&L scenario analysis to drive effective decision-making, demonstrating an understanding of all cost functions including marketing, COGS, fulfillment, marketing and HR
  • Preparation and analysis of commercial KPIs, category and product-level revenues/profitability and evaluation of promotional activity and marketing spend
  • Contribute to an efficient and accurate month end close reporting process
  • Identification of risks and opportunities to budget/forecast
  • Manage S&OP forecasting process for US market, feeding weekly forecast adjustments through to the global planning team.

Ideal background…

  • 4-8 years of finance business partnering/analytics experience in an e-commerce business that sells physical products (DTC, retail, or marketplace). Experience in digital or service-based e-commerce alone will not be sufficient.
  • Retail e-commerce experience is required. Experience with omnichannel retail (e.g., marketplaces, brick-and-mortar partnerships) is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of  key e-commerce financial and operational metrics beyond traditional finance KPIs e.g. CAC, LTV and other non-financial metrics pertaining to e-commerce and marketing.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel or Google Sheets user; NetSuite and Shopify prior experience preferred.
  • Ability to embrace ambiguity, be adaptive and thrive in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Passionate about the details and focused on data accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact, engage and influence stakeholders across the business.
  • Proven track record of leveraging analytical skills and insights to deliver business results.
  • Creative problem solving skills with strong financial modelling experience.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements, P&L and cash drivers.
  • CPA qualified and degree in business (preferred)
  • Highly analytical, with an ability to work with multiple data sources.
