The role

As Sales Director, you will take on a pivotal role in driving Ascendis Pharma’s commercial success in Germany. Your mission will be to execute strategic product launches and deliver on ambitious sales targets. As a strategic and hands-on leader, you will navigate the complexities of the specialty healthcare market, drive sustainable business growth by leading the team of key-account managers, and uphold Ascendis Pharma’s reputation among key stakeholders.

In Germany we are a dynamic and result-driven organization with a strong performance mindset. You will join a team that is made up of committed professionals. Together we are engaged for success with our products for the communities of patients and medical teams in Hypoparathyreoidsm and Growth Hormone deficiency. You will report to the General Manager – Germany, based in Munich.

Your key responsibilities will be to

  • Lead with a hands-on approach, driving rigorous commercial fundamentals, executing strategies, and setting high performance standards to achieve and exceed sales goals.
  • Take ownership of the national sales plan, aligning it with organizational goals and leveraging insights from market trends and sales data.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of administrative tasks, including expense reporting, program funding requests, and management communications.
  • Collaborate closely with the German leadership team (Marketing, Medical, Market Access) to establish a best-in-class commercial operation, supporting effective product launches and driving business fundamentals.
  • Strengthen Ascendis Pharma’s reputation by engaging with key opinion leaders, regulators, payors, patient organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Foster a strong compliance mindset, ensuring full adherence to regulations governing healthcare professional interactions, promotional activities, ethical standards, and other applicable guidelines

Qualifications and skills 

  • Undergraduate (scientific or commercial) degree with an MBA or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Fluency in English and German is mandatory
  • Minimum of 5 years as a people manager
  • Proven success in sales and sales-management as well as the experience and ability to build teams and organizations in fast-growing environment
  • Proven track record in both sales and ideally brand management including leading first-in-class product launches in Germany - this experience to come from a growth company environment i.e., “build-from-scratch”.
  • Experience of the rare disease (endocrinology) market is advantageous.
  • Deep knowledge of the healthcare dynamics in Germany
  • Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring yearly business plans

Please note that willingness to travel extensively is essential in order to advance the business with the key-account managers at the point of customer-interaction in Germany (~ 120 field days)
