The Merchant Analytics Senior Product Manager is responsible for leveraging data across the merchant operations to provide strategic insights, analytics & reporting, drive discovery, and inform opportunity sizing for new or enriched merchant product features that drive improved effectiveness or efficiency. Managing data products requires you to work cross-functionally, communicate up and down the organization, and work closely with your engineers, designers and stakeholders. 

This role sits at the intersection of merchandising and technology, and is critical to unlocking the power of our data to fuel our differentiated assortment through planning, purchasing, allocation and pricing strategies. To design, build and scale data product capabilities through testing and business intelligence reporting, the Merch Analytics Product Manager will drive collaboration both within Technology with other product managers, data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, and across the broader DSG organization with key partners in the Merch, Purchasing & Allocation, and Pricing, with the end goal of ensuring we fully leverage our assortment, pricing and planning tools to ensure that we offer the best, most relevant product to our customers, and have the ability to both understand and optimize business performance.   

 

As the Senior Product Manager-Technology, you enable the delivery of product experiences rooted in lean product management principles and human-centered design principles that support strategic priorities, you are responsible for defining and establishing a comprehensive product vision, strategy, and roadmap for your portfolio of high-value/complex products within a modern development environment. You are the “voice of the product,” empathizing with customers and stakeholders and reviewing data to ensure customer and stakeholder needs are incorporated into and prioritized within the roadmap, directed by data and results. 

This role requires a driven, strategic and tactical leader, who is highly motivated and accountable to deliver outstanding product experiences that achieve enterprise KPIs, including revenue, expense reduction and customer satisfaction. As a Senior Product Manager, you interact with all functional areas of the technology part of the company including UX/UI Design, Engineering, Portfolio and Executive Management, and Business stakeholders. This is a unique data driven role that brings cohesion and coordination to enterprise initiatives by blending strategy, conclusions, and tactics to achieve business results. You must work strategically, driving ideas for growth and new opportunities while tactically solving customer and business problems that exist in existing products and help launch any new products as well. As a product manager, you provide direct insights into the products you are responsible for delivering high-quality products and opportunities for development. Focus areas may include:  

Strategy & Communication 

As the Senior Product Manager you will work with a team of engineers within a portfolio. You will be accountable for organizing and communicating a cohesive strategy with the business and your technology peers across those products. You will provide a macro view of priorities as well as executive-friendly updates on team successes, value delivered and lessons learned. 

Planning, Prioritization & Execution 

You are an enabler to your team to deliver against the planned roadmap and set of outcomes aligned back to the portfolio goals. You will work with teammates on a regular basis to drive alignment ensuring your teammates are clear on organizational priorities and outcomes.  

Data Product Knowledge 

You must develop a deep understanding of product domains that you are responsible for and support the overall strategy of the portfolio 

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities 

As a Senior Product Manager, you will drive strategy and own the value delivery of your product. Though you will not have direct reports, you will be leading teammates across various disciplines (engineering, business domains, product), requiring a strong ability to drive influence through strategy and decision making.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management: 

Drive product strategy and value delivery by leading a cross-functional team through influence. Maintain stakeholder alignment, lead planning events, and provide executive updates. 

Strategy & Prioritization: 

Define product strategy, build data-driven roadmaps, and balance competing priorities. Influence without formal authority and actively engage in the product community. 

Data-Driven Insights & Opportunity Identification: 

Leverage data to uncover the pain points, inform product enhancements, and set vision for the team. Collaborate with analytics teams to drive strategic insights. 

Execution & Delivery: 

Oversee the product development, manage dependencies, and mitigate risks. Create plans and collaborate with engineering teams to scale data-driven solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates for this Role Should Have: 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 

  • Overall 12 to 15 years of work experience, with 5+ yrs of product management and 5+ years of data analytics experience; prefer in-depth experience within the business leveraging data to generate insights in any areas of merchandising (assortment planning, purchasing, allocation, pricing) and ability to generate business performance reporting. retail experience is strongly preferred 

  • Deep understanding of industry trends and user needs, manifesting in the ability to create a value proposition for cross-functional business owners (Merchants, Planners) and a vision for the Merchant Analytics Product that best support business goals 

  • Experience in critical thinking along the Merchant Operations to establish key insights that inform valuation of incremental experiences and/or product features to prioritize in Merchant tools, data & analytics and reporting products 

  • Ability to translate customer experience and merchant needs into inputs for data science teams to build, test and scale machine learning models that optimize assortment, pricing and promotion strategies 

  • Experience managing the product lifecycle from ideation to scaling with a cross-functional team of business stakeholders and technical resources, including but not limited to analytics, business intelligence, data architecture, data science, data engineering and data visualization specialists 

  • Success in defining a cohesive merchant data & analytics product vision, strategies and roadmap 

  • Success in defining short-term and long-term strategies, visions and launching excellent products 

  • Deep experience with data platforms and systems, including Business Intelligence tooling 

  • Experience coaching teammates on complex product frameworks, concepts or methodologies 

  • Previous management experience for a team of individual contributors (ideally of product managers and/or merchant analytics, business intelligence and data engineering teams) 

  • Experience with managing third party vendors and contract negotiations 

KNOWLEDGE BASE  

  • Experience in lean and agile product management practices and methodologies 

  • Strong work experience in reporting and data practices 

  • Experience in product-centric organizational model preferred  

SKILLSET 

  • Ability to balance business objectives, customer needs through prioritization frameworks 

  • Understanding of statistical frameworks and data visualization to guide teams on strategies for business intelligence dashboarding 

  • Base level understanding of common programming languages (SQL, R/Python) and/or data visualization tools (Power BI/Qlik) a plus 

  • Effective management, facilitation and collaboration skills to drive alignment across organizational peers and complex stakeholder groups

  • Ability to cross-functionally organize, motivate and mobilize team towards working on a common goal 

  • Expert written and verbal comm skills that result in effective relationship building as well as alignment across stakeholders and other tech partners 

  • Curious attitude and desire to learn 


This is a fully remote position.  

Targeted Pay Range: $95,200.00 - $158,800.00. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that could include other components such as: incentive, equity and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
