Job description

The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time—but it’s also the greatest opportunity for innovation, and a challenge we’re proud to take on. At Overstory, we’re harnessing cutting-edge technology to enable a resilient electrical grid that keeps communities thriving as our world changes.

The grid is the backbone of life as we know it. It powers hospitals, keeps food fresh, and ensures communities stay connected. But extreme weather, aging infrastructure, and growing wildfire risks are putting this critical system under pressure. All of this combined makes the electric utility industry the greatest opportunity for tackling climate change.

One of the leading causes of catastrophic wildfires and power outages? Trees and brush coming into contact with power lines.

That’s where we help. At Overstory, we use AI and advanced satellite imagery to pinpoint and prioritize vegetation risks before they materialize. By giving utilities critical analysis on those risks, we’re helping prevent outages, reduce wildfire risks, and accelerate the transition to a safer, more resilient grid.

Our team spans the Americas and Europe, and we work with utility partners across the Americas and beyond. We’re outdoor enthusiasts, musicians, artists, athletes, parents, and adventurers—15 nationalities strong and growing. What unites us is a passion for solving complex problems, a commitment to climate action, and the belief that technology should be a force for good.

Join us to help us build a more resilient world together.

The role

You will work within the Data Acquisition team which is responsible for acquiring high quality satellite and aerial data from various sources.

Overstory runs on optical imagery. Each year we collect hundreds of thousands of km² of satellite imagery to be analysed by our teams. In this role, you will support the Data Acquisition team in ordering brand new satellite data or purchasing data from other sources. In addition to the technical skills, this role requires the ability to manage and prioritize several projects while strategizing options to triage at-risk timelines, and communicating progress to relevant teams. As imagery is central to our operations at Overstory, this position collaborates with most teams in the company, including daily communication with both business and engineering teams.

What you will do
  • Manage tasking and data acquisition projects:
    • Using customer data, create Areas of Interest (AOIs) and tasking one or multiple satellite constellations with acquiring the imagery
    • Working on creative strategies for fulfilling projects of varying size and complexity
    • Communicating progress of projects to relevant teams within Overstory
  • Work very closely with Data Ingestion engineers to optimise supporting automation in an on-going effort to streamline acquisition
  • Support our Sales team to quickly assess data availability and project feasibility
  • Collaborate with our Customer Success team to communicate project status and generate alternate acquisition strategies
About You
  • Passionate about climate
  • 2+ years experience in geospatial concepts across the following or similar technologies: ArcGIS Pro, QGIS
  • Proven experience managing multiple, on-going projects simultaneously
  • Passion for thinking creatively about geospatial problems
  • Experience working with multiple teams ranging from Business to Engineering
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Based in the US East Coast or EU
Nice to haves
  • 1 - 3 years Commercial Satellite Imagery Industry experience
  • Python experience or similar (Jupyter notebooks, GIS automation)
  • Prior work in a high-growth startup or mission-driven company

If you don’t meet all of the above yet feel you have lots to offer, please apply anyway.

What you get
  • To be part of truly mission-driven work that reduces wildfires, protects earth’s natural resources and helps solve our climate crisis.
  • Flexible working environment with a lot of autonomy. We build our work days around our lives, not the other way around.
