We are looking for a Controller to join our Accounting & Finance team! This is a primarily remote (work from home) opportunity with minimum travel. Candidates in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee states are preferred given proximity to our headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Salary range of $175,000 - $200,000 is budgeted based on education and experience.
Position Summary:
The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will work closely with the CFO to impact the strategic direction of the company. The Controller is an operational leader who exhibits a high level of professionalism and partners with operations to evaluate business practices and ensure financial efficiencies and to ensure internal controls are in place and effective.
As a key member of the finance team, the Controller is responsible for leading the daily finance team operations including global financial reporting, revenue recognition, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger reconciliation, project-based accounting and work-in-progress, treasury, tax, and project analysis. The Controller is also responsible for establishing and maintaining the appropriate accounting procedures and internal controls to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading, motivating and developing team members with a culture of continuous process improvement. The Controller must have a strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Accounting or Finance, required
Certified Professional Accountant (CPA), required
5+ years of previous experience in a Controller or senior executive finance role
10+ years of experience in finance and managing a team
Previous experience working in Public Accounting and for a private equity owned company, required
Knowledge & Skills Needed:
Netsuite experience preferred
Proven Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) knowledge
Accessing internal controls and improving them
Proven success with acquisitions and financial integrations required
Project-based accounting; understanding of work in progress highly preferred
Staffing business, mixed-assets, or other billable hour-based business highly preferred
Inventory, laboratory, life sciences and pharmaceutical CRO business experience preferred
Ability to lead and facilitate the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of projects
Possesses attributes of a strong team player, including being accountable, humble (sharing how the team supported or owning a mistake), hardworking, and people smart
Maintains a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with difficult situations
Manages multiple competing priorities on a regular basis without sacrificing the ability to deliver results in a timely and accurate manner
Solid experience supervising staff and working collaboratively in a team environment
Experience managing implementation of new systems, software and working with IT staff
Excellent analytic and abstract reasoning, problem-solving and organizational skills
Highly effective communicator (up, across, down) both written and orally

Basic Duties include, but not limited to:
Supervise all North American financial reporting functions, including the monthly general ledger close, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and financial forecasting, to ensure timely and accurate delivery of period end results
Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, including the gathering of necessary data, development of supporting models, collaborating with the business units to develop assumptions and drive targets, and consolidating and communicating results
Establish revenue recognition policies and procedures that are operationally efficient and technically sound
Ensure that the company complies with all financial, legal and regulatory (tax and 401k) requirements, including quarterly and annual debt covenants
Actively manage the company cash balances and produce weekly, monthly and quarterly cash forecasts
Maintain, create, and improve the financial review and analysis of trends in key performance indicators for period-end reporting
Support the CFO and other senior leadership team members in preparing, analyzing, and packaging data in presentation format for executive leadership team meetings and board meetings
Work with the CFO on the evaluation of various acquisition targets, financial consolidations, and integrations of multiple acquisitions, identify synergies and implement best practices across the consolidated group
Develop financial models and analysis to support strategic initiatives and acquisition strategies
Function as primary point of contact for the annual audits, tax return preparation, and employee benefit plan annual compliance work
Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that organizational risks are minimized
Salary and Benefits:
