Job Summary
The National Account Manager 2 focuses on the ongoing relationship and external business leadership with a single, highly sophisticated, extremely high touch, national and/or global retail partner - the most prominent account within its distribution channel. The NAM 2 manages a small team of support associates, internally and/or externally, relative to the accounts business requirements and complexity. Due to the complex nature, financial significance and consumer reach of this role, the NAM2 reports to the Channel Director.

Representative Responsibilities

Results: Directly and indirectly accountable for the successful execution of revenue, operational, product planning and brand expression within mutually (internal and external) agreed upon timeframes, budgets and specifications. The National Account Manager 2 advocates internally and manages complex problems and operations externally to achieve business critical financial outcomes.

Account Portfolio/Attributes: The National Account Manager 2 manages a single highly complex and financially significant account. The retailer is likely publicly traded, has a net revenue of +8 Billion, Carhartt is most often a retailer’s primary or top 3 apparel brand, held to regulatory and SEC (US Securities and Exchange Committee) disclosure standards and has a high pressure and high accountability culture that is passed on to external partners such as Carhartt’s National Account Manager.

Internal/ External: 80% of time is spent complex problem solving with External Leadership including Buying, Product Design, Operations, Store Planning, Marketing, ECommerce, IT, FP&A (Financial Planning and Analysis), and Logistics management and Senior Leadership teams- CEO through Manager. The National Account Manager spends 20% of their time synchronizing external and internal systems and timelines to effectively go to market and achieve financial targets.

Range of Knowledge: Integration of all internal and external functional retail areas; Buying, Product Merchandising, Operations, Store Planning, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, ECommerce, FP&A (Financial Planning and Analysis), and Logistics. It is common that internally and/or externally, and often concurrently, one of the NAMs business critical partners is vacant from his or her position. Given financial obligations have not changed, this requires the National Account Manager to immediately, and ideally temporarily, adjust their plan and fulfill the duties of that role in order to protect the business.

Use Carhartt designated software and/or CRM to manage account relationships, accelerate sales, streamline operations and optimize initiative performance

Complex Problem Solving: Vast internal and external department integration, they are particularly skilled at simultaneous and complex problem solving. They manage and prioritize a collection competing processes and activities in dynamic environments, creative problem-solving methods, strategies and broad knowledge are required. Given 80% of the role relies on external partners with no obligation to adhere to Carhartt’s methods or timelines, this individual is a skilled relationship builder and uses influence and trust to gain compliance.

People Development: Leads a team of internal and external support associates (2-4) whose primary position is the administration of this retail partners strategy and operations. These support positions include, but are not limited to; financial and product planning, operations, and/or retail marketing associates.

Licensees: Integration of the full brand integration at retail. While each of the licensed organizations have Account Mngt resources they may not be adequate and/or the Retailer may wish to primarily communicate and integrate with one Carhartt representative in which case the NAM acts as the Brand Manager across categories but is not directly responsible for the financial performance or sell-in of licensed categories.

Business Development: The NAM works with external leadership to identify opportunities to acquire market/consumer share, and floor space. They work internally to understand category and product availability and challenges that may impact the ability to acquire space and create dynamic and constantly evolving solutions.

Go to Market Strategy: Participates heavily in the internal Go-to-Market process at most mile-stones. task force project teams or initiatives by gathering information and offering insight that will help drive results in assigned channel and global marketplace. Provides input on product strategies to support sales growth and profitability. Assists in the identification, evaluation, and communication of new product / market opportunities.

Industry Savvy: Observes and communicates first-hand knowledge of upcoming trends, brands and consumer insights.
Required Education

Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent years of practical experience, preferably in business or related field.
Required Skills & Experience
-
Minimum of 8 years’ successful Sales and/or Retail Operational experience at reputable lifestyle brand or Retailer (apparel industry preferred), District and/or Regional Manager Level Direct to Consumer job experience for reputable lifestyle brand will be considered.

Demonstrated excellent strategic planning and critical problem solving skills; able to develop and initiate breakthrough strategies that fuel business growth.

Experience and comfort presenting to C-level leadership both internally and externally. Strong communication, command and presentation skills. Demonstrates flexibility in approach based on audience needs and reactions.

Strong interpersonal, external and internal negotiation skills.

Adept at recognizing who the formal and informal decision makers are, regardless of title, and ability to problem solve through ambiguity.

Demonstrated ability to integrate a brand strategy, Go-To-Market strategy, product knowledge, and knowledge about competition to clearly articulate the benefits of our products over others

Excellent time management and organization skills; manages large and complex initiatives

Demonstrated ability to recognize selling opportunities in competitive adjacencies in order to displace competitors

Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office and/or Apple programs and developing/presenting large scale presentations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Typical work from home and/or office environment. Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required.

Willing to work some weekends if necessary.

National and/or International travel required (up to 60%).

This position has a Remote location: Associate will have no regular requirement to be on-site. Travel on-site is limited to special events.
