Job description

Position Purpose

As a direct report of the Senior Director, Learning and Development (L&D), the Learning Experience Designer (LXD) plays a critical role in shaping the learning and development landscape at BBBSA. The LXD is responsible for crafting innovative learning experiences that not only align with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s (BBBSA) strategic objectives but also drive measurable organization outcomes. With a performance-first mindset, the LXD leverages expertise in learning sciences, instructional design, and technology to create learner-centric solutions.

Location: Continental United States (100% Remote)

FLSA Status: Full Time, Exempt

Travel: Approximately 10%

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments and analyzes requests from internal customers to identify the most suitable learning solutions in alignment with organizational and learner needs.
  • Identify opportunities for improving learning experiences, focusing on skill development and leveraging various tools and techniques.
  • Design high-quality, scalable learning journeys that elevate talent performance and foster a culture of continuous learning across the organization.
  • Innovatively leverage technology tools and platforms to create engaging and immersive learning experiences.
  • Develop compelling business cases, including cost estimates, to advocate for investments or divestments in learning and performance initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends and innovative practices to continuously enhance BBBSA's learning experiences, drive business results, and support team development.
  • Apply advanced expertise in learner experience research, adult learning principles, and technology to create and optimize learning solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Mentor and coach agency learning staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality outcomes and foster their professional growth.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, users, and leaders to develop impactful learning programs tailored to business goals and individual development objectives.
  • Collaborate and engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) and network members to create engaging, multimedia-rich learning content that aligns with learning objectives.
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies in education and learning, integrating innovative approaches into the learning architecture.
  • Facilitate learning sessions and forums, both in-person and virtual.
  • Solve complex problems creatively and align decisions with organization’s values.

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level: Master’s degree in education, instructional design, or equivalent OR position relevant experience equivalency.

Years of Related Work Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of learning design and consultation experience required, preferably with some experience in the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) network or a national affiliate environment, utilizing various learning methodologies.

Skills and Knowledge: Learning and Development Expertise: Proficiency in Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, Capability Mapping, and Modern Learning Tools and Methodologies; Performance-Driven Approach: Skill in diagnosing and solving complex performance challenges, creating business cases, conducting ROI analysis, and delivering measurable results through learning initiatives; Design Thinking and Learner Experience: Ability to facilitate design thinking/learner experience research; Learning Journey Design: Skill in designing and curating learner-centric learning journeys that prioritize skill development; Problem-Solving Proficiency: Expertise in Systems Thinking, Root Cause Analysis, and Problem-Solving Methodologies for addressing complex issues; Project Management: Effective organization and management of multiple projects within dynamic environments; Data Analysis and Assessment Knowledge: Competence in data analysis, learning analytics, and educational assessment principles for informed decision-making and accurate assessment of learning outcomes; Mentoring: Ability to mentor peers or agencies in best practices pertaining to learning and performance methodologies.
