The School of Environment and Natural Resources is seeking a seasonal field techs to survey and monitor forest bird nests as well as collect ticks from birds and the landscape in southeastern Ohio forests. Field work consists of nest searching, nest monitoring, nestling measurements & tick collection, adult bird banding & tick collection, environment tick collection, territory mapping, point counts, and vegetation surveys. Top applicants will have knowledge of sight, sound, and behavior of target bird species; ability to transverse steep terrain; and a positive attitude in the woods. The tech may also assist with data entry and daily planning. Field work will be conducted in southeastern Ohio, based out of Vinton County.
Responsibilities will be moderate and less routine and will require responsibility and good judgement. May coordinate activities for other student employees. Requires providing excellent customer service, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a professional environment. Requires previous experience and knowledge or skill in student assistant role. Represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
