Description

Whip Media is the leading SaaS platform transforming how the media and entertainment industry licenses, distributes, and manages content across the global streaming supply chain. Trusted by the world’s largest studios, networks, and streaming platforms, we empower data-driven decisions that maximize revenue, streamline operations, and scale profitable content strategies. Backed by a team of passionate experts, we’re redefining the entertainment industry with innovation, collaboration, and a culture that values fun as much as impact. If you’re ready to make a difference at the intersection of entertainment and technology, join us and help shape the future of entertainment!

We’re a small, collaborative DevOps/Infrastructure team within Whip Media. You’ll work alongside two other Devops/Systems Engineers and report to the Director of Infrastructure. We’re fully in AWS, working primarily with EC2, RDS, Lambda, Redshift, S3, EKS, CloudWatch, and SES—and we’re in the early stages of modernizing and containerizing our applications. In this role, you will have the freedom to tackle challenging problems, introduce new ideas, and help modernize a platform that’s evolving from legacy monoliths to containerized microservices. We encourage a sense of camaraderie, so if you enjoy collaborating on solutions and owning projects, we’d love to hear from you.

What You Will Do:

  • Own problems end-to-end: Investigate issues, propose well-thought-out solutions, and implement them with minimal oversight.
  • Maintain and build out infrastructure: Support and modernize our AWS infrastructure (with a focus on containerization and microservices in EKS).
  • Systems administration: Act as a Linux systems admin (mostly Red Hat-based), and look to implement AWS Systems Manager for patching and security.
  • Infrastructure as code: Use Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or similar tools to version and automate changes.
  • Security & compliance: Monitor and maintain our Greenbone Security Analyzer appliance, collaborate on security best practices, and ensure compliance with SOC 1/2 requirements.
  • Database Experience: Help maintain and troubleshoot databases, primarily Postgres and some MySQL as well as Redshift.
  • Automate Deployments: Improve automation for service deployments. We primarily use Jenkins and some CircleCI.
  • Observability & performance: Continuously improve logging, monitoring (Zabbix, Grafana, CloudWatch, Elasticsearch, etc.), and performance/cost optimization.
  • On-call rotation: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation (about every 3–4 weeks) with a primary/secondary setup. Off hours pages are generally minimal.
Requirements

What You Will Bring:

  • 3–5+ years in a Senior/Lead DevOps role: Experienced in AWS fundamentals (networking, cloud security, credential management, etc.).
  • Strong Linux expertise: Comfortable as a systems administrator for production environments.
  • Continuous integration & automation: Familiarity with build systems, automated testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Infrastructure as code: Strong knowledge of Terraform.  Experience with Ansible, Chef, or equivalent for configuration management.
  • Security-first mindset: Awareness of best practices, basic familiarity with GDPR, and willingness to own vulnerability scanning and remediation.
  • Container orchestration: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and an interest in microservices architectures.
  • Collaborative spirit: Able to partner effectively with software/data engineers and analysts. Thrives in a team environment where everyone contributes ideas.
  • Desire to clean up technical debt: Passion for creating secure, reliable systems that just work.
  • Windows Server/LDAP/Active Directory: Familiarity is desirable but not mandatory.
  • AWS Certifications: Helpful but not required.
  • Service meshes or Helm: If you’ve worked with these or other advanced Kubernetes tooling, it's a plus.
  • Apache Superset: Familiarity with Apache Superset is a plus.
