Sr Linux Administrator: 

Position Description 

RTS is currently seeking a Sr Linux Administrators to support a very large landscape farm in the Public Cloud 

The Sr. Linux Administrator is responsible for critical aspects of the Linux administration including installation, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, and recovery strategy, promoting process improvement, problem-solving, adhering to security policies, and managing servers. Experience is required for security and access controls and script automation for the Linux environment. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Participate in new customer environment design reviews and buildout
  • Advise stakeholders and translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable solutions
  • Support multiple customer environments including operations, incidents, and ticket management
  • Manage systems availability, administration, configuration, and compliance
  • Perform and coordinate incident diagnosis, corrective action, and root cause analysis
  • Analysis and troubleshooting of OS and application issues, crashes, security incidents, performance, etc.
  • Triage and resolve issues in the infrastructure
  • Debugging NFS issues (AD Integration, SSSD, networking, load, etc.)
  • Automate administration tasks using Python, Bash Shell, and Ansible
  • Develop tooling and improve processes to automate monitoring, metrics collection, and analysis
  • Implementing self-service tooling to improve team operations and management of the infrastructure
  • Kernel tuning based on the machine role and recommendations from application leads
  • Updating and Managing the Customer specific golden RHEL & SLES images
  • Perform DISA STIGs and run SCAP checks
  • OS patching
  • Occasional unplanned travel for internal or customer-related activities
  • Provide planned and unplanned after-hours support
  • Participate in the standby on-call rotation schedule

Essential Skills, Characteristics, & Experience

  • Current Linux certification (LPIC-2, RHCSA, SCA, etc..) or ability to obtain within six months of start
  • 10+ years Linux Administration experience supporting production environments
  • Able to debug and resolve complex issues in cloud environments
  • Demonstrable experience in Enterprise-level environments
  • Strong Linux/Unix troubleshooting and log file forensics 
  • Strong understanding of networking principles
  • Security and detail-oriented methodology
  • Strong shell Scripting (Bash, Korn, C)
  • Experienced with patch management using Yum or YaST
  • Experienced writing IT automation scripts using Python or another interpreted language 
  • Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or other server/configuration management tool
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical as well as organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to multitask with several customers, coworkers, and projects
  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure to deliver high-quality deliverables
  • Contribute independently as well as in a team environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • Current Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA)
  • AWS/Azure certifications 
  • Experience managing Linux servers in a virtualized production environment
  • Experience applying DISA STIGs and running SCAP checks
  • Experience supporting the Federal Government or DoD as a Linux Administrator
  • Experience using and configuring Tripwire or Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment (AIDE)
  • Experience with Splunk configuration and installation
  • Experience with Windows integration (NFS, AD/LDAP, DNS, etc)
