The department seeks to hire a smart, experienced, hardworking and dependable Exceptional Children Consultant to join our dedicated team.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Review and investigate allegations that a school district has violated a requirement of state or federal special education law.
  • Produce, with accuracy and within the 60-day timeline, a Report of Findings as it relates to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Formal Written Complaints portion of the Dispute Resolution Process.
  • Manage corrective action plans (CAPs) resulting from formal written complaints and ensure timely correction of noncompliance.
  • Keep the division director informed of any problems or issues that arise as it relates to an IDEA Formal Written Complaint.
  • Participate in various KDE project teams and cross-functional work groups.
  • Support critical work around strategic priorities of the agency/office.
  • Produce data/information for state and federal reporting as it relates to IDEA Formal Written Complaints.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means the position is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the positions. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification but is not required to take an examination or be graded through the testing and evaluation process. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment is given.

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of professional experience in the field of education.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office or school setting. Travel may be required.
