Job description

Nature and Scope

This position is responsible for all Professional Service Veterinarians (PSVs) activities related to animal products and the management of all the field-based Professional Services Veterinarians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain operational strategy and oversight over ARI Veterinary Professional Services.  
  • Develop working plans/schedule each month for Professional Service Veterinary (PSV) activities in coordination with the Animal Health marketing representative to ensure adequate PSV professional veterinary support to the Animal Health Sales representatives. 
  • Strategic scientific input for the clinical research and development programs in the Animal Health Division.
  • Lead membership role for Product Material Review (PMR) of veterinary products, inclusive of the preparatory support, review, and decisions for approval of materials associated with drug development programs and product-specific materials.
  • Meet regularly with PSV team/members to ensure timely review of ongoing and future programs and attendance at scheduled internal and external functions.  Ensure alignment and accountability for individual monthly activities schedules.
  • Mentor and lead ARI Veterinary Professional Services team.
  • Establish relationships and scope of educational opportunities in veterinary schools (facility, students, and administrators) to provide disease understanding and product-specific support of Animal Health’s current and future veterinary products.
  • Ensure PSV knowledge of company pharmacovigilance event reporting requirements and cooperate with Pharmacovigilance Veterinarian and Clinical Development Veterinarians to uphold regulatory compliance.
  • Attend scientific and professional seminars to provide product education and support of corporate goals for the Animal Health Division at the national, regional and local level.
  • Monitor Professional Service Veterinarians’ execution of educational presentations on disease understanding and product information to key stakeholders such as veterinarians, veterinary support staff, animal owners, horse trainers, and equestrian competitors.
  • Provide feedback and scientific direction to the marketing of approved products, potential portfolio expansion, and business continuity.
  • Monitor veterinary industry publications, news, and events for potential impact on the Animal Health business.
  • Assist with medical inquires of the veterinary products in the Animal Health Division.
  • Comply with all regulatory standards governing veterinary pharmaceuticals.
  • Participate in presentations at Investigator Meetings.
  • Recruit, mentor and ensure completion of product training for newly hired field based Professional Service Veterinarians.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales Management to achieve unified and medically appropriate communications for the brands.
  • Obtain strong brand awareness and understanding of competitor activities in order to know the local community and customer needs.
  • Identify and consult with KOLs in therapeutic areas of interest in cooperation with Animal Health marketing division.
  • Identify potential members for Advisory Boards to provide critical insights into the development and marketing of current and future veterinary products.
  • Prepare product training materials and assist in training and assessing the product knowledge of the sales team and the field based Professional Service Veterinarians.
  • Respond to identified needs of key external stakeholders: Veterinarians, Specialists, Key Accounts, Distributors, Key Opinion Leaders, Marketing Partners and Veterinary Associations.
  • Operate within expense budgets and recommend investments based on ROI.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Doctoral Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD), required.
  • 7+ years of experience with a minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience in equine and/or canine practice and veterinary pharmaceutical industry, pharmacovigilance, or related fields, preferably as a Professional Service Veterinarian or in a professional communications/marketing function.
  • Proven leadership abilities, strong mentoring and team building skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintain professional competency especially in fields directly related to equine and canine products and seek opportunities for professional development.

•     Ability to travel overnight.

Expected Salary Range:

$142,000-$165,000

The salary range, is the  minimum and maximum annual salary range of compensation for the role that the employer in good faith believes to be accurate at the time of the posting of an advertisement for the role.  Actual compensation for the role will be based on a number of different factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, education, knowledge, skills and experience.
