Job description

Role Overview 

The Business Architect will align CAA’s business strategy with its operational processes, workflows, and tools to ensure optimal performance. This role identifies, documents, and implements improvements in business processes, develops and maintains the business architecture framework, and works collaboratively across various departments. In addition, this role leads the capture of business requirements for the development of future IT systems, considering the complex nature of packaging legislation requirements. By creating and managing roadmaps for business initiatives and supporting change management efforts, the Business Architect helps CAA achieve our operational goals and drive organizational efficiency. Overall, this role acts as a bridge between business strategy and operational execution.  

Business Architect excels at creating structure, solving business problems, and engaging with stakeholders in a collaborative and fast-changing environment. In addition to being an excellent communicator, you must be able to shift between changing priorities as needed. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Business Process Development: Creates processes, procedures and business flow documents to map current business processes. Gain executive support and approval for new business processes.
  • Business Process Improvement: Understands the business strategy and designs solutions to improve company efficiency, harmonization across states, and collaboration.
  • Document Roles and Responsibilities: Supports key teams in ensuring business and decision-making processes align with existing delegation authorities and approved spend limits. Develop, update, and maintain clear RACI documents for teams including national and state roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and Improve Operational Performance: Gathers and maintains key operational models and KPIs to monitor operational performance and help implement cross-team solutions to improve business performance.
  • Requirements Gathering: Identifies and documents business needs and business requirements across teams for new projects and initiatives, including new IT systems. Drives alignment across teams and resolve challenges or gaps.
  • Oversee Change Management: Develops, implements, and oversees a change management program for the company, including appropriate tools, processes, communications, etc.
  • Drive IT Collaboration: Partners with IT to ensure the IT roadmap aligns with the business needs and requirements including upcoming state launches.

Skills & Competencies 

  • Strong business acumen and solid analytical, problem solving, and business skills.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of data processes, operational processes, enterprise architecture frameworks.
  • Clear ability to facilitate group dialogue and collaboration to finalize business requirements and business processes.
  • High level of detail orientation and focus on data accuracy and willingness to understand detailed regulatory requirements.
  • Self-starter, self-managed and high level of organization.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation).
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt; maintain focus with a high degree of accuracy while working with complex data in an environment of changing deadlines, priorities and requirements.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and collaborate on projects.

Qualifications 

  • Required undergraduate degree in business, business management, IT, or related discipline.  MBA preferred.
  • Required combined 10 years of business related experience in developing process flows, implementing business processes, and tracking and improving business processes.
  • Required 3-5 years of leading change-management processes.
  • 3-5 years of leading collaborative processes to gather business requirements.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Recycling and waste management experience preferred.
  • Business Architect certifications such as CBA, TOGAF, Open CA preferred.

Compensation & Other Information 

  • Location: Initially Fully Remote (future location TBD, relocation may be required)
  • Salary Range is based on a variety of factors in accordance with applicable law, including the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills. Knowledge, and work location. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits, life insurance, retirement, and paid time off.
  • Reports To: Chief Strategy Officer
