Technical Writer & Quality Analyst – Warehouse Control System

The Technical Writer plays a pivotal role in generating innovative ideas for content, working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Technical writers are experts in creating, editing, and proofreading technical content such as manuals, help files, and software documentation. This role involves conducting research on products, services, technology, and concepts to be documented and made easily comprehensible to a wide audience.

For optimal implementation of the documentation, this role also involves participation in software testing as a Quality Analyst to gain a thorough understanding of the processes and how the software works. 

The Warehouse Control System (WCS) serves as the primary control center for managing and optimizing the complete portfolio of automated material handling equipment in a warehouse. It works across different vendors and types of automation devices, such as ASRS, sorters, shuttle systems, and conveyors. Although it is equipped with a user interface, the primary emphasis is on the backend logic for warehouse automation.

As a Technical Writer & Quality Analyst you will be part of an international cross-functional development team. You will play a critical role in producing and delivering high-quality, reliable, and scalable products.

What a day in the life looks like:

• Produce high-quality documentation that meets standards and is suitable for the intended audience.

• Collaborate with engineers and QA analysts to ensure timely and successful product and documentation delivery.

• Develop and improve reference manuals, diagrams, online content, and API documentation.

• Manage documentation using version control and prepare all materials for release.

• Conduct various testing (exploratory, functional, UI, regression, etc.) to ensure high-quality software releases.

• Assist in preparing test plans, recording defects, and providing feedback to maintain quality throughout the software testing process.

This is a remote based role within Germany or United Kingdom. Working pattern is Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.  

What you bring to the team:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and German, with the ability to translate technical information for different audiences.

• Demonstrated understanding of information architecture concepts and how to apply the concepts to site maps, organization schemes, and structures.

• Familiarity with the wiki software Confluence is beneficial.

• Experience with functional, exploratory, non-functional, and user acceptance testing across full project lifecycles.

• Some familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, Markdown, JSON, basic software architecture, and markup languages (HTML/XML).

• Understanding of development processes, fundamental programming concepts, and multiple operating systems (Unix, Windows).

• 4+ years of IT experience, preferably in documentation or software testing, with the ability to quickly learn new concepts and technologies.
