Background Investigator

ISG is the national market leader offering a unique combination of solutions that provide claim and litigation support to both insurance and legal defense communities. Our business units play essential roles in assisting our clients in claim management and ultimately building value in insurance.  This is an exciting opportunity to join us as a remote Background Investigator to work with the SIU Deak team to support insurance fraud investigations. The Desktop Investigator position involves conducting investigative assignments through desktop and telephonic means. These investigations include, but are not limited to, background-related searches and telephonic inquiries.

  • $19 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and analyzes case notes, client handling instructions, prior investigative reports, and other pertinent data to perform independent reviews of facts in preparation and follow-through of investigative assignments.
  • Conducts research through databases and the Internet to compile information pertinent to each investigation.
  • Prepares timely, detailed, unbiased written reports and summaries in compliance with corporate standard operating procedures and client SLA’s. Reports must be accurate and detailed, including all relevant facts.
  • Manage and be responsible for your own case load; this consists of submitting records requests, following up on requested records until their receipt, handling daily commit dates/extension requests and communications to clients, and completing assignments in a timely manner where not hindered by a third party.   
  • Communicate with, submit requests to, and follow up until receipt of records with state agencies to gather information relevant to claim’s investigations; including but not limited to, body/dash camera footage, photos, witness statements/information, OSHA reports, reconstruction reports, autopsy reports, death certificates, 911 records, homicide reports, police reports, fire reports, etc.
  • Conduct a variety of background investigations, including but not limited to, Asset checks, Background Checks for criminal and/or civil records, Next of Kin Searches, Court Record Searches, Locates/Skip Traces, Lien Searches, marriage/divorce searches, etc.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Mandatory, prior investigative experience with using online databases.
  • Mandatory, prior experience with background investigations.
    • Must be familiar and skilled with searching for criminal/civil court records at state, federal, and county/city/town level while having the ability to vet the developed records to ensure accuracy of reporting and due diligence of searches.
  • Prior investigative experience submitting records requests with state agencies.
  • Must be able to travel to a local notary, for requests that require a notarized statement/notarized identify verification, in which you will be reimbursed for.
  • Must be able to travel to a local post office to purchase money orders for requests, or mailing supplies, in which you will be reimbursed for.
  • Strong computer and research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with all internal and external business partners/co-workers and third parties.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate via all incoming and outgoing forms of communication.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed and ability to work independently.
  • Persistence and adaptability while speaking on the phone.
  • Must possess a positive attitude.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills & ability to exercise judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Must be trustworthy in a role requiring the handling of private/sensitive information.
  • Strong ability to write investigative reports in a clear and concise manner utilizing proper grammar, punctation, and spelling.
