Tunista Construction is a highly experienced and qualified heavy civil Native Alaskan DBE contracting firm performing work throughout Washington State, with sister companies that operate all over the world.

What can you expect?

As the Estimator Support Specialist, you will work from Idaho and will assist the Senior Civil Construction Estimator and Estimating team with calculations and estimates required for a construction project of varying size and complexity. This position will require multiple construction and estimating software and you will be responsible for compiling data for bid proposal estimates. You must be detail-oriented to successfully review information and complete projects.

How will you do it?

•      Support the Senior Estimator with daily estimation tasks and project takeoffs.

•      Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from construction plans using Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, and other software tools.

•      Learn, understand, and utilize Heavy Construction Systems Specialists (HCSS) HeavyBid software to generate and refine cost estimates.

•      Create takeoffs, read specifications, enter data, create document controls, and perform other tasks, including document storage using Procore.

•      Enter and track project data, including vendor quotes, labor rates, and material costs.

•      Maintain organized records of all takeoffs, cost estimates, and change orders.

•      Assist in creating detailed Excel spreadsheets for cost breakdowns and estimate summaries.

•      Responsible for preparing cost analysis.

•      Provide correct and accurate estimation or calculation of expenses.

•      Ensure tasks are completed timely.

•      Keep current on changes and trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes, and working rules.

•      manage multiple tasks simultaneously while ensuring deadlines are consistently met.

•      Provide administrative support in scheduling meetings, coordinating project timelines, and ensuring the smooth flow of information.

•      Assist with managing bid pricing from all vendors.

•      Gather information that will be used to produce project estimates.

•      Gather, submit, and track relevant requests for proposals.

•      Demonstrate a proactive and collaborative approach, contributing positively to a team-oriented work environment.

•      Work closely with the Operations Department to address project needs and ensure accurate tracking of estimates and budgets.

•      travel to job sites or other locations as necessary to gather project information or assist with field tasks. (< 10%).

•      Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

•      Perform other duties as directed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

•      Ability to be detail-oriented to successfully review information and complete projects.

•      Knowledgeable and proficient with computer applications.

•      Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials.

•      Knowledge of construction cost estimating, including material costs, labor rates, vendor quotes, and how they impact overall project budgets.

•      Ability to quickly learn new software tools (such as HeavyBid) and adapt to changes in construction methods or project needs.

•      Ability to participate in the transfer of information on successful projects, including the Job Kick-off Meeting.

•      Knowledge of construction cost estimating, including material costs, labor rates, vendor quotes, and how they impact overall project budgets.

•      Skilled in entering and organizing project-related data, such as vendor quotes, material costs, labor rates, and change orders, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

•      Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines without compromising quality.

•      Ability to read construction plans and specifications.

•      Ability to collaborate effectively within a team to achieve project goals and contribute to a positive work environment.

•      Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work without direct supervision.

•      Ability to actively listen and provide high quality customer service.

•      Ability to do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co-workers. 

•      Ability to clearly and professionally explain the rationale behind individual work outputs, even in high-pressure or stressful situations.

•      Ability and willingness to follow Company policies.

•      Ability to travel to job sites as needed (less than 10%).

•      Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.

•      Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, vendors, and project stakeholders, ensuring smooth collaboration and project progress.

•      Ability to take initiative, with a strong drive to succeed and grow both personally and professionally.

Who is Tunista Construction looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

•      High school diploma or equivalent required.

•      Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Tunista Construction’s Driving Policy.

•      Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

•      Associate’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

•      One year related Construction experience is preferred.

•      Have hands-on field experience, providing a strong understanding of on-the-ground civil construction operations preferred.
