Public Rights Project (PRP) is a public interest legal nonprofit, headquartered in Oakland, with a remote team based throughout the United States. Our mission is to close the gap between the promise of our laws and the lived reality of our most vulnerable communities. Since 2017, we have been working at the intersection of community organizing and state and local government enforcement to build a scalable, equitable community-based enforcement model to protect civil rights and advance economic justice.
We support progressive state and local governments, including Attorneys General, District Attorneys, and City Attorneys' Offices with legal strategy, research, fellowships, and community partnerships to help offices develop high-impact legal cases.
Public Rights Project seeks to hire a Senior Digital Marketing Manager to play a key role in developing and executing marketing strategies that support business and fundraising objectives. Reporting to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, they will be responsible for solidifying our position in the civil rights and democracy field as a leader that delivers critical services and training to local government partners.
The Senior Digital Marketing Manager will manage PRP’s website, email platform, and social media channels, using analytics and best practices on an ongoing basis to inform real-time decisions and recommendations. They will create accessible digital content, manage search engine optimization, and collaborate with other teams to ensure our brand is communicated effectively and consistently across all channels. - Strengthen Public Rights Project’s brand and reputation as an innovative, problem-solving organization focused on helping local government officials fight for civil rights.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote the brand, drive engagement, and support PRP’s strategic priorities and business goals.
- Create and lead digital marketing campaigns, social media strategies, and impactful online materials that highlight our achievements and partnerships.
- Manage PRP’s website, e-newsletters, marketing emails, social media, and other digital communications to drive brand awareness and lead generation.
- Plan, write, and edit content for the organization’s website, social media channels, and e-communications as needed.
- Own Campaign Monitor emails, guide team on best practices (a/b testing, drip and nurture campaigns), work on re-engagement campaigns, and manage general welcome series automation, as well as work with other staff to identify and turn their needs into effective email campaigns.
- Maintain PRP’s email database and contact management/segmentation in collaboration with the Salesforce team.
- Develop, execute, and manage social media marketing strategies to drive traffic and engagement across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, and other social media platforms.
- Manage various website traffic reporting systems (e.g., Google Analytics) to monitor overall trends and proactively recommend ways the organization can leverage its online visibility as well as improve traffic and readability.
- Analyze website trends and make recommendations for improvements to functionality, search engine optimization, and the “look and feel” of PRP’s website.
- Work with the website agency and other third-party vendors to identify and resolve technical or performance issues.
- Conduct frequent, in-depth data analysis to spot shifts in the landscape and opportunities to improve performance and return on investment.
- Partner with the training and fellowship team to market our offerings to local governments and increase earned revenue.
- Partner with the development team to support fundraising efforts, from the annual gala to the end-of-year digital campaign.
- Track and analyze marketing performance across all channels, including SEO, ROI, lead generation, and conversion metrics, and adjust strategies based on insights to maximize effectiveness.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- 8-10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within a start-up, high-growth, and/or mission-driven national organization.
- Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Demonstrated background in designing and executing high-impact marketing strategies that elevate brand awareness, drive engagement and sales, and enhance connection with target audiences.
- Experience working in a collaborative, remote team environment with regular virtual meetings and frequent project updates.
- Passion and commitment to using the power of government to protect marginalized communities’ civil rights and freedoms.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong writer with a knack for brevity and writing for digital formats.
- Proficiency in content management systems (i.e., WordPress) and email services (i.e., Campaign Monitor) required.
- Solid knowledge of digital marketing tools, social media dashboards, online evaluation platforms, and marketing trends.
- Strong analytical skills, including tracking and interpreting data to report on trends, make informed decisions, and improve metrics.
- Ability to use email reporting systems to access email data and interpret findings for leadership and other staff members.
- Understanding of marketing compliance, including CAN SPAM law and ADA compliance for emails.
- Demonstrated experience with managing social media profiles, growing followers, and providing innovative solutions.
- Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Effective time management skills, with the ability to maintain productivity, adapt to shifting priorities, and move through ambiguity.
- Strong judgment and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment while being highly responsive with team members to ensure cohesive communications and branding efforts.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires sitting, talking and listening for up to 8 hours per day. Certain situations may require lifting items up to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Fully remote organization and team. This role may require travel a few times a year to PRP events or meetings. We currently have remote staff in Oakland, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Portland (Oregon), and Washington, D.C., as well as other cities.
COMPENSATION
The determined salary range for this role is set at $99,000 – $130,000. For internal equity purposes, PRP will not negotiate with candidates outside of the role’s designated range.
