The Senior Manager, Medical Education (institutional) will be responsible for setting and executing Bioventus’ US Medical Education strategy for the Surgical Solutions pillar of the business (Nexus Ultrasonic portfolio and Bone Graft Substitutes). The Senior Manager will align with the Business Strategy, including working closely with institutional stakeholders, such as faculty, residents, fellows, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), HCP faculty, and internal stakeholders to implement high-quality educational programs that drive learning of the safe and effective use of Bioventus products. The Senior Manager will develop and maintain meaningful, sustainable relationships with physicians and other stakeholders throughout all Medical Education projects, building trust and rapport by exemplifying Bioventus as a caring, ethical, trustworthy, and collaborative company. Working alongside marketing and R&D cohorts, the senior manager should also become knowledgeable about market trends and demands to ensure that the appropriate voice of customer (VOC) is integrated into developing future products, clinical evidence, or educational materials to support unmet business needs. The Senior Manager of Medical Education & Customer Relations will lead strategic partnerships with the relevant professional societies, investment and resource allocation into Medical Education Programs, and capital equipment placement through grants and sponsorship requests. This position will collaborate with other functions, such as Professional Affairs, Marketing, Sales, Corporate Accounts, and Medical Affairs, to prioritize medical education initiatives.

*Strong preference for developing and leading teaching institution programs. This role is remote, with the hiring manager based out of the home office in Durham, NC.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identifies and develops programs aligned with business strategy to meet those needs by driving innovation in learning delivery based on adult education principles, best practices, and research.
  • Drives teaching institution programs, including a learning cadence of multi-disciplinary physician and staff events, journal clubs, and hands-on cadaveric labs. Collaborates with Marketing and Sales to execute a Follow-the-Fellows Program.
  • Manages live and virtual Medical Education platforms and activities, including, but not limited to, cadaver courses, academic journal clubs and didactic dinners, in-person educational events, sponsored labs and symposia at conferences, and other Med Ed platforms supported by Bioventus.
  • Ensures all Medical Education programs and corporate meetings comply with CME guidelines, AdvaMed code of ethics, the company’s code of ethics/GPPs, FDA, and all other federally regulated programs.
  • Leads logistics, travel, hotel, and communication to HCPs related to Medical Education activities.
  • Utilizes the Bioventus organizational processes and systems to analyze and report relevant key performance indicators pre- and post-course to determine ongoing improvements for future programs.
  • Manages the recruitment of HCP delegates for all Bioventus Medical Education programs, with the partnership of the marketing and sales teams.
  • Evaluates current medical education trends and educational needs within the industry and for the company.
  • Proactively engages, develops, and maintains relationships with key surgeons and other stakeholders to meet business needs and suggests suitability for HCP engagement.
  • In collaboration with Professional Affairs, advises faculty selection for Medical Education programs.
  • Manages resident, fellow, and KOL relationships and partners with HCP faculty to develop content for and execute delivery of all Medical Education programs

What you’ll bring to the table

  • A 4-year college degree is required; an advanced degree, e.g., an MBA, is preferred.
  • 8 years of medical device industry experience, at least 2 of those years in Spine, with direct experience or support role in institutional Medical Education curriculum development and program execution
  • Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in running teaching institution programs for residents and fellows
  • Experience in developing meaningful surgeon and other stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to gain alignment, execute and affect change.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g., AdvaMed Code, CME)
  • Broad scientific, technical, and regulatory understanding of most of the functions involved in the development of medical devices
  • Effective management, interpersonal, communication, presentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Cadaver lab-based training experience
  • Travel of up to 60%
