About the Role-

Tempo Software is seeking a UX Research Lead that drives user-centered decision-making by designing, conducting, and synthesizing user research studies to inform product and design strategies. They lead research initiatives, mentor team members, and collaborate cross-functionally to identify user needs, behaviors, and pain points. By leveraging qualitative and quantitative methods, they provide actionable insights that guide the creation of intuitive, impactful user experiences. The role requires expertise in research methodologies, strong analytical and communication skills. Portfolio required to show research studies of various methods and analytical output that leads to positive outcomes.

What you’ll do-

  • Collaborative Approach

    • Work with UX and Product teams to design studies to test features, usability, and concepts across 8-10 products.

  • Research Frameworks and Standards

    • Develop and document 5+ standardized UX research frameworks, including templates for methodologies (e.g., usability testing, surveys, diary studies, early access programs).

  • Research Methodology Guide

    • Create a comprehensive methodology guide with detailed descriptions and examples of research methods tailored to the organization’s needs.

  • Participant Recruitment Process

    • Establish and refine a participant recruitment process, resulting in a database of 10% of user population for diverse participants for ongoing studies.

  • Develop Research Toolkit

    • Identify, procure, and implement 3+ research tools (e.g., for usability testing, surveys, and data analysis) to enable scalable and efficient research practices.

  • Research Repository

    • Build a centralized research repository with 100+ indexed entries, ensuring easy access to past research findings and insights.

  • Team Training

    • Design and deliver training sessions or workshops on UX research best practices to cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering, etc.).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Guidelines

    • Define and document collaboration processes with product and design teams, ensuring research is integrated into the product development lifecycle.

  • Operational Playbook

    • Create a UX research operational playbook, detailing processes for scoping, conducting, and reporting research projects.

  • KPI and Metrics Framework

    • Establish a framework to track and report UX research impact, such as defining 5+ key metrics (e.g., usability scores, NPS changes).

  • Scalable Research Library

    • Set up a scalable insights library, with tagging and search capabilities, to support 50+ cross-team inquiries annually.

  •  Governance and Standards

    • Define governance processes to ensure research quality and consistency, conducting quarterly audits of research practices.

  • Research Program Visibility

    • Launch a UX research internal communications plan, with 8+ quarterly updates or showcases to highlight program impact to stakeholders.

Who you are-

  • Experience: 5+ years of UX research experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in various methods including usability testing, customer interviews, focus groups and more.

  • Design Systems Knowledge: Proven experience creating, managing, or contributing to a design system and component libraries in a large-scale software environment.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Figma and familiarity with making and elevating prototypes for user testing. 

  • Research Program Track Record:  Strong track record of leading strategic research initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes and actionable product recommendations.

  • Analytical Acumen: Strong analytical skills and ability to break down complex problems into data helps team members make better decisions for the customer. Ability to dive deep into web analytics data with tools like Full Story or Amplitude to identify user issues.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present and talk to customers, as well as discuss findings with product and UX leadership.

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and adjust to shifting priorities and business needs.

  • Cross Product Integration: Experience juggling multiple research efforts at different stages across multiple product lines.
