Description

JOB SUMMARY 

The Student Pharmacist I will assist MTM Pharmacists to support our mission of delivering safe, effective, and affordable medication therapy to our target population.  The Student Pharmacist assists pharmacists in providing outstanding patient care and customer service through targeted medication reviews, intervention follow up, and scheduling medication reviews.  In addition, they will perform technical and clerical duties which do not require the professional clinical judgment of the pharmacist.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patient Care:
    • Deliver Targeted Interventions to assess appropriateness of medications, optimize medication therapy, and improve clinical outcomes
    • Conduct patient-centered Adherence Monitoring services to help patients identify barriers to adherence and propose solutions to overcome them
    • Assist with managing medication costs through cost-effective interventions which may include, but are not limited to formulary and therapeutic interchanges, pill splitting opportunities, and assessing unnecessary and/or duplicate medication therapies
    • Receive and respond to incoming patient calls, take appropriate action based on protocols, and use critical thinking skills to escalate calls to appropriate parties when needed
    • Accurately document all discussions with patients and schedule follow-up as needed
    • Accurately update patient demographic, allergy, and medication information in the MTM platform as necessary
    • Obtain correct/updated health care provider contact information
  • General:
    • Provide exemplary internal and external customer service through prompt, professional, and polite communication
    • Perform auxiliary functions essential to the efficient operation of the department
    • Meet productivity and performance expectations set forth by manager
  • Prescriber Outreach:
    • Engage with prescriber offices to obtain responses to pharmacist-generated clinical recommendations.
    • Collaborate with pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and pharmacy student colleagues to support resolution of medication therapy problems.
    • Assist with documenting and submitting claims for clinical interventions made by pharmacists
  • Scheduling Support:
    • Contact patients to introduce and explain the benefits of the MTM program
    • Schedule appointments for the MTM Pharmacist(s) to complete Comprehensive Medication Reviews

 

SCHEDULE/AVAILABILITY

  • Must provide a minimum of ten hours of availability per work week during the hours of 8 AM to 7 PM CST Monday through Friday
  • Consideration given to candidate’s pharmacy school schedule

  • Computer Technology Competency- Proficiency in use of MS Office applications, with strong data entry skills and ability to multitask using multiple databases applications

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum years of work experience:   1 year
  • Minimum level of education or education/experience:   High School Diploma

Required:

  • Active pharmacy intern or pharmacy technician license in the state of residence, where required 
  • Active enrollment in PharmD program (second year preferred) 
  • At least 1 year of outpatient pharmacy experience preferred 
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service with a can-do attitude 
  • Proven ability to work independently in a collaborative environment

The hiring range for this position is $18 per hour. The actual base pay offered will consider candidate’s geographic location, job related knowledge, experience, and skill amongst other potential factors. There may be a bonus or commission, and/or a long-term incentive that will be provided as part of the compensation package, along with medical, financial and/or other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
