Job description

Practice Manager (Orthopaedic Practice), Remote

A very busy Orthopaedic practice in the southern suburbs is looking for a candidate who has extensive experience in working within a private medical practice. The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable regarding the intricacies of how a private medical practice is run and be hands on, organized, efficient and willing to work hard.

The role will entail providing support to the practice operations manager and doctor and ensuring the smooth running of the practice. Key functions will be the coordination and management of the theatre lists, liaising with patients regarding surgery, attending to patient queries, dictations and relief reception duties when required as well as personal assistant duties.


Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the entire theatre and booking process involving:
  • Preparation of consents, authorization and admission forms
  • Sitting with patients to obtain signed consent, explaining the theatre process, booking surgery dates
  • Arranging theatre requirements with reps
  • Distribution of theatre lists
  • Distribution of theatre information to patients
  • Updating google sheets with theatre bookings
  • Preparation of theatre files for the doctor
  • Attending to all dictations and distribution of feedback, medical reports, letters of motivation etc (this might be outsourced in future)
  • PA duties such as flight bookings, conference bookings, diary management etc
  • Reception duties on Fridays and as and when required
  • Attending to patient queries
  • Being part of the debtor collection cycle
  • Preparation and circulation of cost estimates
  • Ensuring proper processes are followed for payments for private patients


Experience and skills:

  • Extensive experience within a private medical practice or healthcare environment
  • Excellent English acumen both written and verbal
  • Excellent at multitasking
  • Prior experience within an orthopaedic practice is an advantage
  • Excellent and proficient with Microsoft office suite, google sheets, excel etc
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Empathetic, kind and caring disposition
  • Able to work extended hours on busy consulting days
  • Fast and efficient on a computer
  • Hard worker


NB: The candidate must reside in an area near the southern suburbs, Cape Town.
