Vanderlande’s Site Management Department is responsible for the Installation and project execution of Material Handling Systems, Airports, Warehouse Automation and Parcel Sortation systems for our customers throughout North America. The increasing number of new projects and their geographical spread means the team is growing and expanding. You will report hierarchically to the Manager of Site Management, and daily to the Project Manager. In this position, you will be working within a Site Management project team to manage the installation of baggage handling, automation or parcel sortation system.
Overview: You will be responsible for the high-quality installation and to ensure the system is installed with efficiency, against the project specifications and technical requirements. The Construction Manager is responsible for all the activities involved in the installation of baggage or automated material handling systems on our biggest, most complex projects. You are responsible for being proactive in reporting and resolving logistic, technical or organizational problems and having good communication with the customer about progress, out of scope work, non-conformities, timely payments and all other site related issues.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
Manages site-based execution of medium to large projects (project size ranging from $50M – $100M)
Draws up a challenging site-based project plan (including commissioning and integration) and leads the complete execution on site
P&L - budget responsible for all site related costs
Manages site-based contracts with high project risk and complex installed equipment
Profound understanding of contracts and able to effectively mitigate related risks
Understands claim avoidance and when necessary, claim handling
Manages quality, time, costs and provision of information
Full responsibility for reporting and escalating nonconformities to customer and PM
Ability to mobilize the complete site-based organization and connect to the internal organization
Tough negotiator with customer and subcontractors. Manages contract issues in a professional way
Manages stakeholders at any level, including senior management (in- and outside Vanderlande)
Takes ownership over all site related challenges
Multi-disciplined and looks further than borders of own field
Manage the high-quality execution of the installation process (schedule, quality) according the Vanderlande process map
Responsible for the site safety by creating, implementing and securing the site safety plan
Is responsible to organize all HSE related activities on site
Communicate with customer about progress, out of scope work and all site related issues
Basic qualifications:
10+ years of experience in a position of managing complex projects and systems
Leadership capability to create a unified and motivated project team
Proven track record in on site management of larger/complex installations with high level of automation
Ability to manage a team of mechanical and electrical supervisors assuring that work is executed as per the project schedule
Sound knowledge of contract law
Experience serving as on-site representative while building relationships with clients
Ability to obtain required security clearances to work in Vanderlande project sites
Valid passport in the event international travel is required
Must have valid drivers’ license
Must be able to obtain a SIDA badge (security badge)
Willingness to travel up to 80% - 90% (domestic)
Preferred Qualifications:
Four-year college degree in technical field
Material handling system experience
OSHA Certification

This is a full-time, exempt position, eligible to receive an hourly rate and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Salary range: $130,000 - 140,000
