The Opportunity

We are seeking Product Development Directors to join our P&C Property Development and Modernization team. This team is focused on the modernization of our Dwelling products and the conversion of our existing platforms to new, modernized platforms.

As a dedicated Product Development Director, you will be accountable for developing new products, coordinating and leading the launch and maturation of new products into target strategic markets. You will also act as a cross functional expert, providing expertise and support for product line initiatives related to product development, compliance, operational and process improvements, claims management, vendor management, product documentation, fulfillment, and/or system releases.

There are multiple positions available with this posting.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

What you'll do:

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Develop digital first products supporting the needs and risks of USAA Members
  • Lead development and launch of new innovative product offerings as well as auxiliary/enhanced features/services for existing products.
  • Develop recommendations to launch new products and the evaluation and decision to buy/build or ally for individual product(s).
  • Generate creative product and coverage solutions for member needs to ensure a dynamic product development pipeline exists
  • Maintain detailed level of knowledge of business and underwriting performance for products in scope (e.g. trends, results, etc.)
  • Be responsible for post-launch monitoring, maintenance and underwriting of “new in market” products based on product performance, member needs and competitive changes in the market including but not limited to product rules, rates, and forms.
  • Conduct complex analysis of internal and external data and member information to support formulation of product strategy and enhance competitive intelligence.
  • Develop and communicate the new product value proposition for individual products.
  • Ensure sales support is delivered to all distribution channels (e.g., .com, mobile, contact center) so that the new product is properly positioned to members
  • Lead the analysis and evaluation of new product performance metrics to make changes to offerings, if necessary, prior to full launch
  • Coordinate with relevant control partners (to include Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings are designed and implemented in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Statistics, or related discipline; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years relevant experience in Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, Operations, Financial Services or relevant military experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying and supporting product and/or integrated suite of products.
  • Experience working through agile product development process, managing multiple products simultaneously.
  • Knowledge and application of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).
  • Creative problem solving ability with hands on experience in problem framing, qualitative & quantitative research, running product experiments, hypothesis testing and prototyping to launch products at the intersection of Human, Technology and Business dimensions.
  • Ability to navigate through ambiguous contexts with confidence and to break large complex initiatives into smaller manageable features and capabilities and deliver them early and often.

What sets you apart:

  • 6+ years' Property & Casualty experience, particularly in one or more key functions (e.g., Product Management, Pricing, Underwriting, etc.)
  • 1-2 years’ experience leading modernization of systems, products and technology requirements
  • Experience with Implementation of new product offerings on modernized pricing and policy management platforms (ideally Earnix and Guidewire)
  • Experience with P&C Personal Lines Property and/or Dwelling products
  • Demonstrated ability to use data for decision making and to present results to executive level leadership
  • Demonstrated experience with P&C regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Direct or team leadership experience
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310 - $243,340.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
