Overview:

The Director, Construction for the Western US region will be responsible for constructing a seamless process in managing, coordinating, and directing all construction efforts for new store openings including verification that stores are built to architectural plans, specifications, and budgets. In this role, you will ensure that design and brand standards are met through all phases of store layout and construction. You will continually develop the company brand and retail physical environment and strive for seamless integration of architectural, brand, graphics, and technology standards. The Director, Construction will manage all national vendors relating to store build outs and create a culture of cost control, using the construction team and national architects to control, and verify franchise and corporate construction projects to budget. 

 

Our Western US region covers WA, OR, CA, NV, AZ, NM, UT, CO, WY, ID, MT, ND, SD, AK and HI. 

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the successful opening of Planet Fitness locations in the West US region, including coordinating the interrelating activities of all contractors, suppliers, architects, vendors, and leasing agents.
  • Ensure delivery of branded elements and prototypical standards in every store while communicating design and construction modifications accurately and effectively to the field, the architects, and general contractors.
  • Conduct project progress visits and provide photos and project status checklist. 
  • Limited participation and guidance in Domestic Real Estate site rides.
  • Responsible for bi-weekly international project status calls.  
  • Responsible for weekly updates to construction project pipeline report.
  • Review and approve construction drawings, including exterior signage.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage overall timeliness of project schedules for new store, ensuring that projected opening dates are met.
  • Maintain and manage relationships with all national account vendors.
  • Work closely and frequently with cross-functional teams including, but not limited to Operations, Finance, Procurement, Marketing, Equipment, and Franchise Development.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to travel to Planet Fitness locations in the assigned region of the US, required
    • Willing and able to travel domestically 100% of the time, including some nights and weekends
    • Currently resides near a major airport
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Clean driving record
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction, or related field
  • 10+ years managing franchise real estate and construction for franchise retail chain
  • Extensive knowledge of a Multi-Unit Franchise system
  • High level of familiarity with the Real Estate processes, analytics, and area demographics
  • Financial acumen with an ability to manage budgets and control costs
  • Excellent project management skills and demonstrated abilities to make independent decisions and quickly and effectively solve complex problems
  • Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
  • Creative, progressive, thought leadership with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent leadership skills including the ability to build teams, motivate, guide, and mentor

Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include: Specific skills and experience, geographic location, or other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be tailored to be lower or higher in different talent markets. The expected pay for this role will range from $130,000 to $170,000 per year. This role will be eligible to participate in an annual bonus program.
