Description:
Laboratory genetic counselor for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGT) cases, including aneuploidy screening (PGT-A), single gene (PGT-M), and cytogenetic (PGT-SR). Key participant in improvement of delivered PGT counseling product and departmental contributions to broader CooperSurgical organization.
Responsibilities
- Focused laboratory genetic counseling for referred PGT cases (80%)
- Manages PGT cases from initiation through test completion; including case acceptance review and case coordination with laboratory operations, client services and billing departments; Collaborates with Lead Laboratory GC or Manager of Laboratory GC on counseling for complex PGT cases
- Counsels PGT patients regarding test development procedures (when applicable), risks, benefits and limitations of PGT testing
- Coordinates appropriate documentation, consents, DNA samples and family member participation for PGT test development, when required
- Documents patient encounters in appropriate internal systems as well as customized external client and patient-facing letters
- Assists clinics, patients and larger CooperGenomics organization with routine questions/issues regarding referred PGT cases and CooperGenomics PGT processes
- Delivers customer feedback and measurements of laboratory genetic counseling quality metrics to Lead Laboratory GC or manager
- Secondary Responsibilities (5%)
- Collaborates with Lead Laboratory GC on complicated diagnostic level cases
- Delivery of customer feedback to Lead Laboratory GC
- Advancement Opportunities and Associated Demonstrated Competencies (15%)
- Successful completion of departmental and product improvement initiatives as assigned by manager. Examples include, but not limited to:
- Review and feedback in departmental policies and practices
- Participation in marketing activities such as blog writing and webinars
- Involvement in education and training of junior team members as well as genetic counseling students
- Demonstrated ability to accurately address more complicated PGT cases
- Contribution to genetic counseling research projects as directed by manager
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Human Genetics or equivalent field from American Board of Genetic Counseling accredited institution American Board of Genetic Counseling board certified/board eligible Holds or able to obtain genetic counseling license in appropriate states 3 years of relevant genetic counseling work experience Experience in a PGT laboratory setting strongly preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers Ability to sit for extended periods of time using computer equipment in normal office conditions; occasional need for domestic and/or international travel (

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $95,000 - $100,000. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
