Job description

Want to make a difference? Join an organization that has been transforming lives for over 40 years!
Prison Fellowship® trains and inspires churches and communities—inside and outside of prison—to support the restoration of those affected by incarceration. We equip correctional leaders, volunteers, and incarcerated men and women to make prisons more rehabilitative places; we advocate for a more restorative criminal justice system; and we collaborate with churches and local service providers to support former prisoners, their families, and their communities.

Prison Fellowship® is an organization committed to the highest standards of conduct, ethics and Christian values. Our conduct is guided by and grounded in the Bible, as reflected in our Statement of Faith below.

What we are looking for:

A driven and mission-focused Director, Financial Planning & Analysis and Grant Administration to oversee the financial health and sustainability of our organization. This role is vital in ensuring that our nonprofit operates efficiently, remains compliant with financial regulations, and maximizes the impact of our resources. The ideal candidate will have a robust financial management background, a passion for nonprofit work, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to a variety of stakeholders.

Expectations of this role:
  • Manage multiple programs funded by restricted funds, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and budgets.
  • Lead grant management activities, including budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance monitoring.
  • Conduct strategic analysis and assessments by researching and benchmarking financial data, providing actionable insights to support organization leaders—including the EVP, CEO, and VP of Finance—in making data-driven decisions and shaping long-term financial strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with staff, leaders, and external stakeholders across the organization.
  • Manage and respond to development requests related to budget information and program results.
  • Oversee the release of restricted funds, ensuring they are used in accordance with donor wishes.
  • Collaborate with program teams during the annual budget process to identify program costs and cost drivers, including unit costs for programs in multiple states.
  • Partner with program and development teams to create detailed, customized development proposals for potential funders.
  • Develop and implement tools and processes for managing expenses related to grants and restricted funds, and train program teams accordingly.
  • Work with the finance team to regularly report on the spenddown status of grants and restricted funds.
  • Oversee the monthly process of releasing restricted funds, in coordination with the finance team.
  • Manage and mentor a high-performing team
Qualifications:
  • Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ and support the ministry through prayer and actions.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience with 3-5 years of FP&A and Grant Management experience in a nonprofit setting.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA a plus
  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Sage Intacct or similar systems) and experience with CRM systems (Salesforce) and Concur are a plus. Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Power BI, are essential for data analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and regulations. Strong proficiency in financial modeling, including the ability to develop, analyze, and interpret models for budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making. Experience managing grants and funding from diverse sources.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
  • This is a remote/work from home position with a 5% travel component.

What we offer:

At Prison Fellowship, our goal is to support the total well-being of all our employees. Our benefit offerings for full-time employees include health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, retirement account funding, flexible spending accounts, paid maternity and parental leave benefits, and more. OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Foundation of What We Believe
As a Christian organization, Prison Fellowship believes in the full authority of the Bible as God’s inspired word and the complete tenets of the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.
We believe in one God, Creator and Lord of the Universe, the co-eternal Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary atoning death on the cross, rose bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven where, as truly God and truly man, He is the only mediator between God and man. We believe that the Bible is God’s authoritative and inspired Word, without error in all its teachings.

How We Are Compelled to Live and to Act
We believe that Christians, both individually and corporately, must submit to the Bible, as God’s authoritative, divine and inspired Word, in all matters of belief and conduct.
