We have an exciting remote opportunity for a Manager of Regulatory Accounting. This position can be performed remotely from any of the following states: AR, OK, MO, ME, TX, SC, TN, KS, FL, NJ, NY or LA. 

 

The Manager of Regulatory Accounting will support the Controller and work closely with various departments, including Accounting, Regulatory, Operations, Gas Supply, Legal, Billing, Engineering, FP&A, and Program Management. This position ensures transactions are recorded in compliance with FERC and GAAP accounting standards while identifying process improvement opportunities. The role also supports rate case and rate setting processes and manages periodic regulatory filings.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and approve FERC corrections during the month-end close process.
  • Review and approve responses to data requests from regulatory commissions and external consultants.
  • Review and approve annual jurisdictional financial reports.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Regulatory, Operations, Gas Supply, Legal, Billing, Engineering, Program Management, and FP&A to research and resolve issues.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual utility commission regulatory reporting.
  • Support regulatory rate filings, including data provision.
  • Assist with interim and year-end audits, including regulatory disclosures.
  • Ensure the general ledger reflects proper FERC classifications.
  • Work with IT to develop or validate regulatory reporting tools.
  • Lead, mentor, and train direct reports, including goal-setting.
  • Review monthly expense trend reports and ensure expenses align with expectations.
  • Handle ad hoc projects assigned by the Controller.

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS in Accounting, etc.) (preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in Regulatory Accounting or General Accounting (required).
  • Experience with regulated utilities or public service commissions (required).
  • Supervisory experience (required).
  • Rate-setting experience (preferred).
  • CPA or CIA certification (preferred).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in business and technical writing for regulatory and executive audiences.
  • Ability to consult effectively with senior management and executives.
  • Strong influencing skills—capable of building trust without direct authority.
  • Agility in a dynamic environment—adaptable to shifting responsibilities and priorities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis, with the ability to communicate complex financial and regulatory concepts and data to all levels of management and staff.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency (required).
  • Strong knowledge of FERC and GAAP standards, with experience implementing changes in accounting guidance.
  • Experience working in a remote office environment.
  • Willingness to work required hours to meet departmental and company deadlines.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA, Oracle EBS, GL Wand, SmartView, and PBCS (preferred).
