This role in a nutshell:

Across OVO we have Software Engineers all with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. One key thing that all of our engineers have in common is a desire to develop brilliant, industry redefining products as well as their own skills.

Working across a whole domain with other Engineers, a Product Manager, Product Designer and Head of Engineering/Engineering Manager, you’ll build systems using the latest cloud services, architectures and best practices providing performance, resilience and scalability. You’ll contribute to your team's Ways of Working, and have time for your own personal development.


Your key outcomes will be:

  • Acting as a subject matter expert within the team, providing technical advice, guiding solutions, and helping to establish good engineering practices.
  • Influencing the team’s technology selection and architectural direction.
  • Playing a key role in the technical decisions that help drive the direction of the strategy here at OVO.
  • Designing, building and maintaining cutting edge services and tools


You’ll be a successful Tech Lead here at OVO if you…

  • Demonstrate technical leadership including guiding product architecture, solution design, technology selection, design pattern usage, and implementation activities
  • Have a passion for coaching and mentoring other technical team members.
  • Are highly proficient in Typescript
  • Have experience developing cloud-based solutions on GCP or AWS using Infrastructure as Code
  • Have a proven track record of designing and building highly performant scalable applications 
  • Are comfortable working in an agile development environment with regular release cycles, and have experience of pair programming, BDD/TDD, CI/CD and deployment strategies.

We’ll pay you between £70,000 and £100,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
