Position Summary:
The Director of Bioinformatics will work closely with the Operations, R&D and commercial teams to provide informatics support for existing on market assays as well as contribute to the development and implementation of new assays, technologies and data products that address the needs of our customers. The Director will be expected to bridge the domains of translational cancer research, pharmaceutical development, and software engineering providing leadership and clarity of communication to support a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a strategic technical leadership direction for bioinformatics, data analysis and AI ML and data product development activities
- Lead the development of bioinformatics and computational genomics workflows under appropriate regulatory standards.
- Independently designs and develops novel analytical and computational tools for diagnostics, including new assays.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all Core Responsibilities of a Director level scientist.
- Consistently and independently performs the more complex level of procedures and projects.
- Provides technical leadership, mentors and directs laboratory teams in performing project experiments.
- Represents the department in a diverse range of settings, including with other departments, clients, audits, vendors, and conferences.
- Performs the literature review, write project/product proposals or plans.
- Analyzes, presents data and project updates to the management team and clients.
- Validate and translate new assays and/or new technology between R&D and Clinical Operations.
- Provides support to research collaborations, clinical trials and other department projects.
- Prepares high quality technical reports (including validation, verification, final project) and documentation including posters/papers, client presentations and technical content for marketing materials.
- Assist with departmental budgeting and/or administrative efforts.
- Must be able to use and implement innovative strategies to lead the department into the future.
- Familiar with CAP/CLIA/FDA requirements and knowledgeable with the specialty requirements within those organizations

Experience and Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a life, physical or computer science; M.S. in a life, physical or computer science with related experience; BS in a life, physical or computer sciences with significant supervisory experience.
- Ten or more years of related laboratory or technical experience preferred.
- Managing teams of Bioinformaticians, Bioinformatics Scientists, Software Engineers or Bioinformatics Specialists in both Research and Commercial, clinical and biopharma environments
- Architecting and implementing software solutions for Cloud computing, High performance computing, clusters, and distributed computing environments
- Working with technology in a life sciences environment
- Leading the design and implementation of production scale next generation sequencing analysis pipelines for oncology and germline analysis
- Software Engineering in a Unix/Linux environment
- Working with multiple programming languages such as R, Python, Java, C, C++, Perl, or R, and scripting languages such as BASH, Java, Perl, R or Python
- Analysis of large next generation sequencing cohort data sets (TCGA, ICGC, or 1000G, UK Biobank etc.)
- Experience with multiple NGS sequencing platforms and multiple sequencing types (WGS DNA-Seq, Exome DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, Methylation, Fragmentomics, ctDNA liquid biopsy, MRD analysis, etc.)
- Expertise in ctDNA, MRD analysis would be highly advantageous.
