JOB SUMMARY 

The Sr. Business Development Officer will play a leading role in Orbis International’s business development efforts in identifying and cultivating new corporate partnerships. This role focuses on building a robust pipeline to sustain long-term growth and giving, ensuring consistent funding for the organization. The Sr. Business Development Officer will leverage an initial growth strategy and work to evaluate and adjust strategy during implementation to meet an initial goal of $1,000,000, while planning for multi-year growth and goals. They will work collaboratively with other Orbis departments to ensure all sales materials and messaging are current and part of the business development outreach as well as, as appropriate, contribute to organization wide revenue generation events. 

LOCATION

This is a remote position based in the United States. For those who prefer to work in an office setting, our NYC office has desk solutions for employees in the area and can accommodate those preferences. Orbis’s current policy requires that all staff visiting the NYC office must be vaccinated against COVID-19.  

REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Sr. Business Development Officer will report to the Director, Corporate Partnerships and collaborate with leaders and key stakeholders across the organization. They will also work closely with team members to ensure alignment and synergy between new and existing corporate partnerships. The Sr. Business Development Officer will foster internal and external relationships with Orbis colleagues, corporate partners, fellow fundraising professionals, and other key contacts and supporters around the world, as well as Orbis donors and partners.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Prospecting and Pipeline Development: Play a leadership role in the identification and cultivation of new corporate partnership opportunities in multi-sectors. Assist in building and maintaining a robust pipeline to ensure long-term growth and giving. In collaboration with key stakeholders, qualify and clear prospects, develop and implement strategies for engaging multi-national corporate donors with multiple touchpoints.   
  • Program Impact and Support: Develop and maintain a robust prospect pipeline by leveraging in-depth knowledge of Orbis’s programmatic work across various sectors to create sustainable opportunities. Work with internal teams to project manage submissions once opportunities have been identified. Ensure that new partnerships align with Orbis’s mission and goals and contribute to increased program impact and support. 
  • Execution of New Business Fundraising Strategy. Execute Orbis’s new business corporate development activities in the US and in key markets globally; utilize, assess and modify the current business development strategy and implement strategies aimed at recruiting and retaining corporate donors and garnering unrestricted and restricted support, enhancing the Orbis image, and communicating mission and goals to US and global audiences. Establish and oversee explicit revenue targets for multi-year and annual initiatives, ensuring achievement of both short-term and long-term financial goals.  
  • Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Play a key role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new corporate partners in close collaboration with members of the Corporate Partnerships team. Ensure all business development efforts align with internal protocols and contribute to organization-wide revenue generation initiatives as appropriate. In collaboration with the Director, Corporate Partnerships, assign new account leads and ensure proper handoff of new partners to members of the Corporate Partnerships team, when applicable. This role will also manage a portfolio of new mid-level business accounts. This collaborative approach ensures that each donor receives consistent and focused attention throughout their journey with Orbis. 
  • Corporate Partnerships Program Structure and Processes: Develop the tools, processes, and systems necessary (within existing databases) for a successful corporate partnership prospecting program. With the Director, Corporate Partnerships, formulate and closely monitor the corporate budget, ensuring that revenue and expense targets are met.     
  • Intra-Orbis Collaboration: Manage new business development program expectations, provide support, and share best practices for corporate fundraising with global offices. Contribute to the implementation of organization-wide fundraising events.  
  • Communications: Collaborate with the Global Communications & Marketing department on the development of collateral pieces including newsletters, annual reports, brochures, and other materials, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 6 years of proven success in corporate fundraising and/or business development, with demonstrable track record of meeting multi-year revenue goals of a minimum of $1.5 million annually.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; familiarity with global health issues and the role of technology, AI, virtual reality, etc for healthcare delivery preferred
  • Demonstrable track record in engaging, liaising, and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, to secure funding commitments. 

 SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • An entrepreneurial and team approach to raising funds and stewarding donor relationships, with a track record of initiating fresh ideas that has influenced generating new revenue. 
  • Strong command of best practices and techniques for fundraising and corporate business development. 
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multiple global teams, effectively balancing competing priorities to drive business growth and strategic goals
  • Fluency in English required with exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present persuasively to diverse audiences, including donors and stakeholders; proficiency in a second language preferred to enhance global engagement
  • Consummate relationship-building skills, with dynamic capacity to inspire new donors to give and colleagues to collaborate as a team. 
  • Willing and able to travel nationally and internationally up to 25% of the time to support partnerships and advance organizational goals.
