Job description

Job Summary

The John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Business Communication Lab Business Communication Lab (MBCL) has a consultant (tutor) opening for qualified applicants starting immediately. The Mitchell Lab is looking for consultants who are interested in tutoring business communication assignments at the undergraduate and graduate level. In a one-on-one environment at the COB's Lab, tutors will coach students in a variety of audience-based communications. Sessions may be conducted remotely or in person.

Applications must include a resume and cover letter, and a writing sample (in one file) to be submitted to this job posting.

Basic Duties

  • Demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with and learn from others.
  • Support graduate and undergraduate student business writers in digital, print and oral communications.
  • Meet remotely or in person as needed.
  • Attend paid staff meetings and training.
  • Assist with Lab programming, as needed.
  • Maintain session records.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student work in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA),
  • Perform duties and maintain standards according to college policies, procedures, and values.


Starting pay is $15.00/hr.

Required Qualifications*

Applicants with a bachelor's degree in Business, Communication or a related discipline with applicable work experience is required. A Master's degree (student) is preferred. Multilingual students with expertise in English are especially encouraged to apply.
