SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to improving the access and service to customers. The  Level 2 Transplant Financial Counseling position functions as an integral member of the Access and Revenue health care team to reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect and as such will display the highest standard of customer service both internally and externally.

The Level 2 position works in tandem with the manager / director to operationalize the strategic plan of the Medical Center to improve access and services to our transplant patients and to ensure reimbursement of hospital services provided.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Level 2 position is responsible for developing efficient workflows between transplant financial counselors and clinical team, and supports training, developing.  The Level 2 also assists with escalated and urgent inquiries.

 The Level 2 is expected to independently fulfill delegated tasks including optimizing workflows and offering suggestions/insights to improve and insuring consistent and on-going communication with the staff.  The Level 2 is responsible for ensuring that standardized procedure and educational materials are established for the department and communicated to the staff.

In addition, the Level 2 will oversee the financial counseling process of interviewing patients and/or family members to obtain the most up to date information. Quality data collection includes detailed insurance information, demographic, physician, employment, and other miscellaneous information. This collection process includes the interpretation of requirements by Medicare and multiple other payers. The Financial Counseling Level 2 should be able to interpret patient answers to ensure accurate information on Medicare secondary questionnaires to ensure compliance with billing practices. The  Level 2 must be able to use a variety of technology which include the registration & hospital billing system, eligibility verification, payer websites etc. The Level 2 will communicate regularly with the clinical team and payers when limitations, restrictions, documentation requirements etc. are needed prior for authorizations to take place.  The transplant Level 2 will display the highest level of customer service, attentiveness, and consideration possible in all cases. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

For hire:            

Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, business or related field, and systems design/management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of registration/billing practices as well as hospital patient accounting practices.

Knowledge of assistance programs and regulations guiding their use.

On-going: Staying current on industry developments as they pertain to Transplant Access, Scheduling and billing.
